Former Kaizer Chiefs captain Jimmy Tau has reached a major personal milestone following his successful transition from professional soccer to broadcasting. The retired right-back, who spent years playing at the highest level of South African football, is now preparing for fatherhood alongside his wife, media executive Thabile Ngwato. The couple, who have generally kept their private life out of the public eye, are expecting their first child together.
Tau enjoyed a distinguished career on the field, most notably serving as a dependable defender and team leader for Kaizer Chiefs. Over the course of his playing days, he also represented Orlando Pirates and earned caps for the South African national team, Bafana Bafana. After retiring from active play, the 46-year-old native of Kimberley established himself as a regular analyst and analyst for SuperSport TV, where he continues to provide expert commentary on domestic and international matches.
His wife, 36-year-old Thabile Ngwato, is a prominent figure in the media industry. Originally from Mpumalanga, she is the co-founder and chief executive officer of the 24-hour news channel Newzroom Afrika, as well as the Ngwato Nkosi Group. Despite her high-profile business ventures, Ngwato has maintained a low profile regarding her personal relationships and family affairs.
The pair tied the knot in May 2025 during an intimate traditional wedding ceremony attended by close family and friends. News of the pregnancy marks a new chapter for both figures, who have built influential careers in sports and broadcasting while keeping their personal life largely private. As they prepare to welcome their firstborn, those close to the couple note that they are eager to begin their journey into parenthood.
