Peter Shalulile continued his scoring streak as Young Africans secured a 2-1 comeback victory against Mashujaa SC in their first match following the departure of Manqoba Mngqithi.
After falling behind just 17 minutes into the game, Yanga had to intensify their efforts to clinch the three points. Mashujaa’s early lead put the home team under immediate pressure, prompting a swift response from the defending champions.
Only five minutes later, Shalulile netted the equalizer, alleviating tension for the home crowd, with Stephane Aziz Ki assisting the Namibian forward. The teams went into halftime even, granting Yanga the opportunity to regroup and aim for a win in the second half.
Yanga secured the victory in the 79th minute when Clement Mzizi scored the decisive goal, completing the comeback and earning the essential three points. This hard-fought win demonstrated the team’s resilience following a challenging period.
With this win, Yanga narrowed the gap to just two points behind league leaders and rivals Simba SC, holding a game in hand. This result keeps the title race competitive and positions the club favorably in the Tanzanian Premier League. Fans will be encouraged to see the positive response from the team after recent setbacks.
Simo Dladla, Mngqithi’s former assistant, stepped in as interim coach for the match after the dismissal of the previous head coach over the weekend. His debut in the role ended with a crucial win that should help stabilize the team.
Shalulile has consistently scored for Young Africans since joining earlier this year, proving to be a vital contributor in crucial situations. With the gap to Simba closed, Yanga aims to leverage this result to apply pressure at the top of the table. Dladla's leadership appears to provide a promising start as the club moves forward.
