Papi Zothwane Reveals What Sekhukhune United Must Improve to Win Trophies

Sekhukhune United head coach Papi Zothwane has called on his players to improve their defensive discipline, emphasising that conceding fewer goals will be essential if Babina Noko are to compete for trophies this season.

The coach believes that a well-organised defence could play a decisive role in the club's pursuit of success, particularly when facing opponents with the technical ability to punish even the smallest mistakes.

According to Zothwane, winning matches and challenging for silverware requires more than having a productive attack. Teams must also know how to protect their leads, maintain their shape and prevent opponents from finding opportunities to score.

"You win matches, and you win championships by not conceding a lot of goals," Zothwane said.

His comments underline the importance of defensive consistency as Sekhukhune United continue their campaign in South African football. While the team has already worked on improving its defensive structure, the coach believes there is still room for progress.

Zothwane explained that his players must remain organised and focused throughout matches, even when fatigue begins to affect their performance.

"We have to work on that. We have worked on our defensive structure, but we just have to stay in the game even when we are tired," he explained.

The Sekhukhune United coach also warned that his team cannot afford to lose concentration against technically gifted opponents who can quickly take advantage of defensive errors.

"We need to stay focused because some of the teams we play against have technically gifted players," he added.

For Babina Noko, improving defensively will require a collective effort from the entire squad. Defenders and goalkeepers cannot be expected to carry the responsibility alone, as midfielders and attacking players must also contribute by pressing opponents, tracking runners and helping recover possession.

Fatigue can often lead to poor decision-making and a loss of concentration, creating spaces that opponents can exploit. Zothwane's message suggests that maintaining discipline during challenging periods of matches will be crucial to the team's progress.

As the season continues, Sekhukhune United will need to balance their attacking ambitions with greater defensive stability if they hope to challenge for major honours.

Zothwane's approach reflects his belief that a solid defensive foundation gives a team a better chance of achieving consistent results.

Supporters will now be watching to see whether his message translates into improved performances and fewer goals conceded.

For Sekhukhune United, the objective is straightforward: remain disciplined, defend collectively and turn defensive improvements into results that strengthen their pursuit of silverware this season.
