Ouaddou Delivers Strong Message to Orlando Pirates Players Ahead of Soweto Derby

Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has delivered a stern message to his players ahead of Saturday’s highly anticipated Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs, reminding them of the responsibility that comes with representing the Buccaneers.

The two Soweto giants are preparing for another chapter in one of South African football’s biggest rivalries, with both teams eager to deliver a strong performance and secure bragging rights. With emotions expected to run high, Ouaddou wants his players to approach the encounter with discipline, determination and complete concentration.

The Pirates coach believes that wearing the club’s famous black-and-white jersey requires more than individual talent. Players must demonstrate commitment, work hard for one another and remain focused throughout the match, regardless of the pressure surrounding the occasion.

Ouaddou has also emphasised the importance of accountability within his squad. No player should consider himself indispensable, regardless of reputation, experience or status in the team. Every member of the squad must be prepared to contribute and follow the tactical instructions given by the technical team.

The warning comes at a crucial time for Pirates, who understand the significance of defeating their bitter rivals. The Soweto Derby is not an ordinary league fixture, as supporters expect their teams to show character, intensity and determination from the opening whistle.

Discipline will be particularly important, with unnecessary mistakes, emotional reactions and missed opportunities potentially influencing the outcome. Ouaddou will expect his players to maintain their composure while executing the team's game plan.

The coach also wants his squad to remain united when the pressure increases. Communication, teamwork and concentration could prove decisive in a contest where the smallest details often make the difference.

Pirates supporters will now hope that Ouaddou’s message inspires a determined performance against Chiefs. Ultimately, the players must demonstrate their commitment on the pitch and prove they are ready to fight for the badge in one of South African football’s most demanding encounters.
