Red Arrows head coach Chisi Mbewe has reportedly received a Toyota Mark X in recognition of his team’s impressive achievement in the CAF Confederation Cup, following their dramatic elimination of South African giants Kaizer Chiefs.
The vehicle was presented to Mbewe by Zambia Air Force Commander Lieutenant General Oscar Musitu Nyoni, who also serves as Red Arrows’ patron. The reported reward followed the Zambian club’s successful qualification for the competition’s group stage, a milestone that has generated excitement among the team’s supporters.
Red Arrows secured their place in the next round after overcoming Chiefs in a tense preliminary-round encounter that was decided by penalties in Durban.
The Zambian side entered the second leg with a narrow 1-0 advantage from the first meeting in Ndola. However, Chiefs responded in the return fixture at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday, October 23, 2026, with Bradley Cross scoring a second-half header to give Amakhosi a 1-0 victory on the night.
The goal brought the aggregate score to 1-1, forcing the contest into a penalty shootout.
Despite the pressure of playing away from home, Red Arrows kept their composure and won the shootout 3-2 to secure qualification. Their victory ended Chiefs’ hopes of advancing further in the continental competition.
For Mbewe, the achievement represents a significant moment in his coaching career. Guiding Red Arrows past one of South Africa’s most recognisable football clubs has brought attention to the team’s determination and growing ambitions on the African stage.
According to reports from Zambia, Nyoni welcomed the returning team at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport, where he congratulated the players on their performance. He subsequently presented Mbewe with the vehicle as recognition of his contribution to the club’s success.
Nyoni also reportedly encouraged the team to aim higher, challenging the players to pursue a place in the CAF Confederation Cup final. The message suggests that Red Arrows are expected to approach the group stage with ambition rather than simply celebrating their qualification.
Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs will have to reflect on their continental disappointment and concentrate on their remaining domestic objectives.
Red Arrows, on the other hand, will look to build on their breakthrough result as they prepare to face stronger opposition in the next phase of the competition.
What do you think about Red Arrows’ achievement? Can Chisi Mbewe guide the Zambian side all the way to the CAF Confederation Cup final?
