Ex-Kaizer Chiefs Star Knowledge Musona Handed New Role After Scottland FC Coaching Shake-Up
Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Knowledge Musona has been handed a new responsibility at Zimbabwean champions Scottland FC after the club parted ways with head coach Norman Mapeza following their disappointing exit from the CAF Champions League.
The experienced forward has been appointed player-assistant coach as Scottland restructure their technical team in an attempt to rescue their domestic campaign. The development marks a significant step in Musona’s involvement at the club, with the former Zimbabwe national team captain now expected to contribute both on the pitch and in the technical setup.
According to reports, Musona will work alongside interim head coach Peter Ndlovu, the former Mamelodi Sundowns team manager and Zimbabwe football legend who has been tasked with guiding the club through the remainder of the season.
The changes follow Scottland’s painful elimination from Africa’s premier club competition after surrendering a two-goal advantage against Angolan giants Petro de Luanda.
Scottland had appeared well-positioned to progress after winning the first leg 2-0 at home. However, a disappointing 3-0 defeat in the return fixture in Angola saw them lose the tie 3-2 on aggregate, ending their continental ambitions.
The outcome proved costly for Mapeza, who was subsequently dismissed alongside members of his technical team.
Musona’s appointment comes at a crucial stage for Scottland, who are also facing increasing pressure in the Zimbabwean Premier Soccer League title race. The defending champions have struggled to maintain their earlier momentum and now find themselves trailing league leaders Hardrock FC.
The 36-year-old forward remains one of the club’s key attacking players, having scored 10 league goals this season. His experience at the highest level of African football could prove valuable as Scottland attempt to finish the campaign strongly.
Musona previously enjoyed a spell with Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa, where he established himself as a dangerous attacking player before continuing his career abroad. His experience with the Zimbabwe national team has also made him a respected figure in the country's football circles.
The former Warriors captain has recently been spotted attending a coaching course in Namibia, suggesting that he has been preparing for responsibilities beyond his playing career.
His elevation to the technical team therefore represents an opportunity to begin translating his extensive playing experience into coaching knowledge.
Meanwhile, Ndlovu faces an important challenge as he attempts to stabilise the squad and restore confidence following the club's continental disappointment.
With four league matches remaining, Scottland will need an immediate improvement in results if they are to keep their hopes of defending the domestic title alive.
Musona's new role could prove influential as the ambitious club looks to recover from a difficult period and finish the season on a positive note.
