“Ncikazi Will Come Back To Coach Pirates One Day” — Benson Mhlongo Makes Bold Prediction

“Ncikazi Will Come Back To Coach Pirates One Day” — Benson Mhlongo Makes Bold Prediction About Former Buccaneers Assistant

Former Orlando Pirates assistant coach Benson Mhlongo believes Mandla Ncikazi’s departure from the Soweto giants may not be the end of his relationship with the club, suggesting that the experienced coach could return to the Buccaneers in the future.

Ncikazi recently parted ways with Pirates after serving as part of the technical team during a period in which the club competed for domestic and continental honours. His exit has prompted discussion among supporters about his contribution to the team and whether he could eventually return to the coaching setup.

Mhlongo, who understands the demands of working at one of South Africa’s biggest football clubs, believes Ncikazi still has a connection with Pirates that could bring him back to the organisation one day.

His comments will interest Buccaneers supporters, particularly those who have followed the club’s changing technical structure and its efforts to remain competitive in the Betway Premiership and other competitions.

Mhlongo Believes Ncikazi’s Story Is Not Over

Mhlongo’s view is that Ncikazi’s departure should not necessarily be interpreted as a permanent separation from the club.

“ Ncikazi will come back to coach Pirates one day,” is the prediction attributed to the former assistant coach.

The statement suggests that Mhlongo believes Ncikazi’s experience and familiarity with the Pirates environment could leave the door open for a future return.

However, it is important to distinguish Mhlongo’s personal assessment from an official club position. There has been no confirmed announcement from Orlando Pirates indicating that Ncikazi is being considered for a future appointment.

Coaching careers often involve changes in direction, with managers moving between clubs, taking on different responsibilities or stepping away before returning to familiar environments. Whether that happens in Ncikazi’s case will depend on future opportunities and the club’s needs.

Ncikazi’s Time At Orlando Pirates

Ncikazi became part of Pirates’ technical team in 2021, working alongside other members of the coaching staff as the club pursued success in South Africa and on the continent.

His time at the Buccaneers coincided with a period of regular involvement in cup competitions and continental football. Pirates reached successive CAF Confederation Cup finals in 2022 and 2023, winning the competition in 2022, while also remaining among the country’s prominent domestic sides.

Working at Pirates comes with considerable pressure because of the club’s history, passionate supporters and expectations of challenging for major trophies.

Assistant coaches also play an important role behind the scenes, helping with training sessions, tactical preparation, player development and match analysis. Their contributions may not always attract the same attention as those of the head coach, but they form part of the wider technical structure.

Ncikazi’s experience at the club could therefore prove valuable if he eventually returns in another capacity.
