BRU-ING UP: Club Brugge vs Lens LIVE: Vanaken taps in from close range to put hosts in front

CLUB BRUGGE host Lens in a huge Champions League clash tonight.

Nicolo Tresoldi scored a fabulous hat-trick as the Belgian side overcame Inter Milan 4-3 in a thriller last week to win their first European game of the season.

Lens have had mixed results in the Champions League so far after losing 2-0 to Sporting last week, though they did stage a late comeback to beat Slavia Praha in the first week of action.

The hosts produced four shots with two hitting the target, giving them an xG of 1.00.

Meanwhile, the visitors racked up 11 attempts with three on target, highlighted by an xG of 1.33.

We will be back shortly for the second half!

Half-time sounds at Jan Breydelstadion with Club Brugge holding a 1-0 lead courtesy of Vanaken’s stoppage-time strike.

Lens controlled the play and can feel hard done by after Ivanovic hit the post in the first 13 minutes and Kadile had a close-range shot cleared off the line.

Yet it was the Belgian side who broke the deadlock when Risser could only parry Tresoldi’s effort straight into the path of Vanaken, who tucked it in from six yards.

The Opta predictor currently lists Club Brugge as favourites with a 74% chance to win.

HALF-TIME: Club Brugge 1-0 Lens

GOAL!

CLUB BRUGGE STRIKE IN FIRST-HALF STOPPAGE TIME!

1-0!

Seys curls a corner into a dangerous area from the left, and Tresoldi’s effort is beaten away by Risser.

The rebound falls invitingly for Vanaken to tap in from close range!

WIDE!

Tresoldi takes the free-kick, curling a low right-footed effort just past the right-hand post.

YELLOW CARD!

Udol commits a dangerous foul, arriving late to catch Potts on the foot.

The hosts win a free kick 20 yards out.

Two minutes of stoppage time have been signalled as we near the end of the first half.

SAVE!

A delivery from the right is fizzed to the back post.

Kadile breaks away from his marker to get his head to it, but Sommer is there to thwart the effort.

OFF THE LINE!

Lens threaten down the right flank as Hazard backheels it into Ivanovic’s path.

Ivanovic fails to control it, but the ball falls to Kadile on the left of the area, whose shot is cleared off the line by former West Ham midfielder Potts!

Lens win the game’s opening corner down the left.

Abdulhamid lofts the delivery to the back post, but Spileers manages to clear the danger.

Lens push forward as the ball is fed to Aguilar on the right.

The defender controls it cleanly before launching his effort high and wide into the stands.

Hazard leads the match in shooting stats so far, recording three attempts with one hitting the target.

He has also chipped in with a chance created and 24 touches.

Forbs attempts to beat Skoras down the right flank, but the former Club Brugge man stands firm to deny him.

Lens have racked up five shots, testing the keeper once, while Club Brugge have mustered just a single effort.

The hosts clearly need to raise their game.

Almost immediately, Virgili has a sight of goal from 18 yards off a right-wing cross, but Aguilar and Cuisance combine for a brilliant block!

Ivanovic’s curling effort crashing against the woodwork is still the closest either side has come to breaking the deadlock in Bruges.

Summer signing Virgili embarks on a surging run from his own half, driving all the way to the Lens penalty area before Aguilar steps in to dispossess him.

Hazard is down on the turf after taking a stray arm across the face from Vanaken.

The referee chooses not to flash a yellow, letting the Club Brugge captain off without a booking.

The assistant referee raises his flag to penalise the German for offside, halting Forbs’ pass intended for Tresoldi, who scored a hat-trick against Inter in his previous outing.

Club Brugge are finding it hard to get a foothold as Lens call the shots.

Can they carve out the next goal attempt?

POST!

Another chance for Lens!

Ivanovic drifts in from the left side of the box before curling a right-footed effort toward goal, but it rattles the upright!

You cannot get much closer than that!

SAVE!

Hazard wins a free kick 25 yards from goal and steps up to take the set piece himself, but Sommer comfortably parries the effort away.

The former Inter goalkeeper was hardly troubled there.

It has been a slow opening at Jan Breydelstadion with the match yet to properly ignite, though Lens hold the upper hand in possession with 52%.

The hosts launch an attack through Forbs, who picks out Sabbe on the overlap down the right.

But Sabbe miscues his cross, slicing it straight out for a goal kick.
