Alan Shearer is predicting more Premier League frustration for Liverpool this weekend, even though Andoni Iraola's side won comfortably in Europe midweek.

Saturday's trip to Brentford is set to be significantly more difficult than the 6-3 victory over LASK in the Champions League, and Liverpool has only had a short turnaround between two fixtures that are away from home.

While Iraola cannot use that as an excuse, Liverpool has only won two of the six league games that the Spaniard has overseen so far, beating Ipswich and Bournemouth and drawing with Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and Fulham. The Reds lost heavily to Manchester City last time out.

Now, Shearer is not confident that Liverpool can go to the Gtech Community Stadium this weekend and collect another victory, with the Reds currently a point behind Brentford in the standings.

"I'm going to go for a home win," Shearer told Betfair. "I think Brentford are brilliant in what Keith Andrews has got them all doing.

"They showed that when 2-1 down last week, they still got the point at Villa Park. I think with Liverpool playing in Europe, then traveling to London and then in Europe again on Tuesday night, I'm going to go for a home win.

"Andoni Iraola has got injuries, so I guess that in itself will make it tough for them. Liverpool can't afford a defeat, but I think Brentford will beat them and pile on the pressure."

Liverpool will take on Villarreal and Brighton next week in the Champions League and the Premier League respectively.

The team then has a League Cup tie with Chelsea and a trip to Fenerbahce sandwiched between Premier League games with Arsenal and Crystal Palace before the November international break.

"It's more difficult," Iraola said when he was asked about facing Brentford off the back of a European away trip with such a short turnaround.

Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.

"We played yesterday night, came here late, and we didn't sleep how we normally sleep. But this is the challenge of playing. It is almost a constant this season, so we have to adapt.

"We have four days in between two games, not normal, but we have to adapt. We can rest some and give some minutes, so I expect everyone to be at their best mentally and physically. We have to be ready for a battle."
