Penn State and Robert Morris are each searching for their first win of the season. Penn State enters the matchup with a record of 0-3-0, while Robert Morris is 0-4-0 at the start of the day. Penn State dropped its home opener to Quinnipiac in its last game. After jumping out to an early lead on Quinnipiac, the Nittany Lions gave up six consecutive goals in the loss.

Robert Morris has struggled to get the offense working in the first few games of the year. The Pioneers return leading scorer Jackson Reineke after scoring 11 goals with 15 assists for the team last season. Robert Morris is near the bottom of the nation in average shots on goal per game (20.25 shots per game, 54th out of 57 teams).

Penn State leads the all-time series with Robert Morris, 8-4-0, with the last meeting coming in January 2020 (a 6-2 victory for Penn State).
