COLUMBIA — South Carolina football stunned No. 11 Tennessee 27-24 with a field goal as time expired on Oct. 24, leading to fans storming the field at Williams-Brice Stadium.
The Gamecocks (4-3, 2-3 SEC) hadn't won a home SEC game in over a year, and hadn't beat a ranked team in Columbia since 2024.
That changed after sophomore kicker Malik Orsan nailed a 48-yard field goal against the Vols (6-2, 4-2).
Trailing by seven, South Carolina stopped Tennessee on fourth down with 3:35 left. South Carolina went 61 yards on six plays, ending in a 4-yard rushing touchdown by quarterback LaNorris Sellers to tie it at 24 with 1:17 to play.
Then with 40 seconds left, the defense strip-sacked quarterback George MacIntyre, recovering on the Tennessee 34.
That set up Orsan's magical moment, which also gave coach Shane Beamer his ninth top-25 victory in his six seasons in Columbia.
Here's "Voice of the Gamecocks" Todd Ellis' call of the game-winning kick.
Ellis played quarterback at South Carolina from 1986 to 1989 and is now in his 35th season as the play-by-play voice of the football program on the Gamecock Sports Network.
The fans storming the field comes with a hefty bill for South Carolina and it will be paid to Tennessee.
SEC commissioner Greg Sankey changed the ruling to a flat rate of $500,000 for every field storm. In the past it used to range from $100,000 to $500,000 depending on how many times a university's fans stormed the field.
