AC Milan will take on the Europa League table-toppers Ferencvaros without their captain Mike Maignan, which presents an opportunity.
Milan do not have long to enjoy their impressive 3-1 derby victory against Inter because the match against Ferencvaros is scheduled for 18:45 CET at San Siro on Thursday. The Hungarian side are in excellent form, too.
They are third in their domestic league with 20 points – just two behind top-seeded Gyor, and with a game in hand. They are fourth in the Europa League with nine points out of nine as well, thanks to wins against Torreense, Plzen and Celtic.
This will therefore not be an easy match for Milan, who are down in 24th place after defeats to Benfica and Bournemouth either side of a win against RB Salzburg.
Speaking of the Bournemouth game, Maignan’s red card in that means he must serve a one-match suspension. A multi-game ban was feared but the Frenchman will be available for the match against Olympiacos, scheduled for November 26th.
For the match against the Hungarians, Lorenzo Torriani will be between the posts. This is a great opportunity for a player who came through the youth academy, and one in whom the club and Ruben Amorim have great faith.
After making his debut on 17 September 2024 in the 3-1 Champions League defeat to Liverpool, he has so far played just 141 minutes with the first team. To date Torriani is yet to play his first match in Italy’s top flight, Serie A.
In fact, in addition to the aforementioned match against Liverpool, the Italian has only started in the Rossoneri’s 6-1 victory over Sassuolo in the Coppa Italia in December 2024, and in several pre-season friendlies. So, this will be his first start in a ‘top’ competition for his boyhood team.
