Former pro wrestler Jack Swagger has suffered yet another setback after suffering the ‘worst injury in Power Slap history’.
Swagger, whose real name is Jake Hager, has been involved in slap fighting since the start of 2026, having previously been linked with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and Bellator MMA.
After signing a contract with WWE in 2006, Swagger went on to become the company's World Heavyweight Champion. In 2017, he left the promotion as he opted to pursue a career in MMA. Having signed with Bellator MMA, Swagger competed in the heavyweight division, boasting a record of three wins and one no-contest from four fights.
Since the start of 2026, Swagger has signed with Power Slap and won on his debut against Devin ‘Big Jinxx’ Jenkins by KO. However, in September, the 44-year-old suffered a horrible eye injury and had to undergo emergency surgery.
At the time, he was up against Johnny Magna at Power Slap 23, and after the fight, Swagger began bleeding from his left eye; the injury was labelled by UFC CEO Dana White as the ‘worst injury’ in Power Slap history.
Despite having emergency surgery in September, it has been reported by MMA Mania that Swagger is still having problems.
Taking to social media, Slap News delivered an update from Swagger’s fiance, Patricia; it read: “It was discovered this week that Jake had a detached retina.
“He underwent surgery to reattach, which doctors have said went better than expected. Send your love and prayers to Jake and Patricia as they navigate a very sensitive and unpredictable recovery.”
In the comments, Patricia wrote: “I want to thank the UFC and Power Slap for their support and assistance.
“I’m also deeply grateful to his medical team and everyone who has reached out, prayed, and shown Jake so much love.”
Speaking earlier this year to Andrew Ross Sorkin at the CNBC Sport x Boardroom Game Plan Summit, Dana White claimed that Power Slap could end up as big as the UFC.
He said: “[Power Slap] could be just as big as the UFC.
“When you look at the numbers, we have like the most viewed YouTube short ever in sports on Power Slap, the most viewed ever in sports on TikTok, and the numbers are just astronomical on what we pull on this thing.
“And it’s global. It’s already a global business.”
