The second ODI between New Zealand and India at Hnry Stadium in Wellington has witnessed an impressive display of fast bowling and exceptional fielding from the visitors. Despite a lengthy rain interruption that reduced the contest to 47 overs per side, India made an excellent start after winning the toss and opting to bowl first.
The Indian pace attack immediately put the New Zealand batting lineup under pressure, making early inroads into the top order. Among the standout moments was a brilliant piece of fielding from Anshul Kamboj, who pulled off a spectacular diving catch to help Auqib Nabi register his maiden ODI wicket.
The breakthrough arrived during the second over of New Zealand’s innings when Nabi sent Tim Seifert back to the pavilion without scoring. However, the wicket belonged as much to Kamboj as it did to the young Indian pacer, with the fielder producing an outstanding effort at mid-on.
On the fifth delivery of the over, Nabi bowled a pitched-up delivery outside off stump, tempting Seifert into playing an attacking drive. The New Zealand opener was slightly early into his shot and failed to keep the ball down, sending a mistimed effort towards mid-on.
Kamboj reacted quickly, moved forward and completed an excellent low diving catch to send Seifert packing for a duck. The dismissal marked a special moment for Nabi, who registered his first-ever ODI wicket in the process.

Nabi continued his impressive start by claiming another important wicket in his opening spell. The right-arm pacer removed Will Young, who managed just six runs before departing, leaving New Zealand in considerable trouble. His two early breakthroughs gave India the perfect start after opting to field first. The conditions also appeared to favour the Indian seamers, with the pitch offering some assistance through its two-paced nature.
Kamboj added another wicket to India’s tally by dismissing Henry Nicholls, who scored 11 runs before being sent back to the dressing room. With three New Zealand batters already dismissed inside the first powerplay, the hosts found themselves in a difficult position. India’s bowlers had made excellent use of the conditions, while their fielders complemented the attack with impressive efforts.
At the time of writing, Daryl Mitchell and New Zealand captain Tom Latham were attempting to stabilise the innings and prevent further damage.
