Packers star Matthew Golden poked fun at himself after the Green Bay wide receiver experienced a rollercoaster performance on Sunday Night Football against the Dallas Cowboys
Packers star Matthew Golden had the perfect response to his rollercoaster Sunday Night Football performance against the Dallas Cowboys.
Sunday night saw Golden and the Packers move to 4-2 on the year after beating the Cowboys 23-13 at Lambeau Field. Following an undulating rookie season where he flashed moments of brilliance, Golden looks to have taken a leap this season.
Against Dallas, he caught six passes for 104 yards and a touchdown from Jordan Love, his second consecutive 100-yard game of the 2026 season and third of the year. His numbers would have looked even better had he not dropped two touchdown passes from Love, the first of which was a 43-yard bomb down the left sideline.
His other touchdown drop came in the second quarter on a 23-yard pass, with Golden making an excellent catch before it got knocked loose as he spun and hit the ground. During the first quarter, the Packers receiver hauled in a 37-yard reception from Love.
After making the catch, Golden got up to celebrate, pumping and flexing his biceps as Cowboys cornerback Shavon Revell Jr. was walking past him, with officials deeming the celebration a taunting offense. The penalty, which many fans viewed as soft, backed the Packers up from a 1st-and-goal scenario to the Cowboys' 24-yard line, with Golden then catching his touchdown pass from Love six plays later.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Golden said, "I was just flexing. I'm in the middle of a game, that’s just how I was feeling, but I guess it was a flag. I didn't really flex at him. I was flexing in the stands, but it is what it is."
He added, "I guess they [the officials] expect us not to show any emotions. We play a high-emotion game. For me to get a flag on that, it's out of my control.
On social media, Golden also offered up his thoughts on his evening, posting a single facepalm emoji.
Despite the drops, the 23-year-old looks like a star during his second season. He is sixth in the NFL in receiving yards with 501, having already eclipsed his rookie season, which saw him catch 44 passes for 361 yards and no touchdowns during the 2025 regular season.
Following the win over the Cowboys, Love told reporters that Golden told him to keep "trusting me" despite the drops, something that left the Packers quarterback elated.
"That's what you love. You love to see that confidence, that resiliency," said Love of Golden.
"That's what I tell these guys all the time. Don't hang your head after a bad play. Just expect the ball to keep coming your way and make that next play."
Having started the year 1-2 with defenses teeing off on Love as a result of poor offensive line play, the Packers have won three straight, with Green Bay set to face off against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field this Sunday.
