All Blacks legends Richie McCaw and Dan Carter have both spoken about the extraordinary talent of Jonah Lomu, with the iconic winger leaving a lasting impression on two of rugby's biggest names.

Between them, McCaw and Carter won four Rugby World Cup winners' medals and earned more than 250 caps for New Zealand.

They played with and against some of the finest players the game has seen.

But few made quite the same impact as Lomu.

Dan Carter reveals brutal Jonah Lomu encounter

Carter knows better than most what made Lomu so special.

The legendary fly-half once found himself on the wrong end of the winger's remarkable power.

"He bowled me over about 5m when I tried to tackle him in one of my first games," Carter recalled.

"A superstar. Gutted I never played with him."

Carter has previously backed Lomu in rugby's greatest-ever debate, pointing to the impact he had on the sport around the world.

Lomu announced himself on the biggest stage at the 1995 Rugby World Cup.

His four-try demolition of England remains one of the tournament's most famous performances.

Richie McCaw admits Lomu made him look silly

Former All Blacks captain McCaw also discovered just how difficult Lomu was to stop.

"When I first became an All Black he was in the team," McCaw recalled.

"To play alongside a guy you had watched as a young fella was pretty amazing."

He added: "He made me look silly in training more than once."

McCaw went on to become one of rugby's most successful captains, lifting the World Cup in 2011 and 2015.

Despite their shared admiration for Lomu, the two legends have not always agreed on who deserves the title of rugby's greatest player.

Jonah Lomu's remarkable legacy

Lomu scored 37 tries in 63 Tests for New Zealand.

He was just 20 when he became the breakout star of the 1995 World Cup.

His international career was later affected by serious kidney problems, but his influence on rugby was enormous.

The winger died in November 2015, aged 40.

His achievements are recognised by World Rugby's Hall of Fame, where he sits alongside some of the game's greatest names.

For McCaw and Carter, Lomu was more than just another talented teammate.

He was a player who helped change rugby forever.

Have your say: Is Jonah Lomu the greatest rugby player of all time, or would you pick McCaw or Carter?
