Perhaps the New York Jets are better. Perhaps they are generally more competitive in an ongoing rebuild with head coach Aaron Glenn. But you're certainly not going to find anyone lauding the 2-5 Jets' apparent progress after their loss to the previously winless Miami Dolphins on Sunday. Certainly not Garrett Wilson after he was seen arguing with quarterback Geno Smith.
Well, no one other than Glenn, that is. What a surprise.
After the Dolphins beat the Jets 28-25, Glenn doubled down on what he sees in his Jets players. He thinks his players are competing hard and that, despite the optics of a 2-5 record, the Jets are in fact "on the right track."
Are they really? How hard do you have to squint to see the Jets slowly but surely ascending? Can I borrow a magnifying glass from someone?
Again, I do think it's notable that the Jets haven't quit yet. Four of their five losses so far have come by just one score. That's the sign of a young team with a solid competitive will, learning how to win in real time. But if they're not getting it done ultimately on the field and are still losing to terrible squads like the Dolphins, it's really challenging for me to see this supposed progress they're making.
Process over results in the NFL only goes so far when you're still losing almost every single week.
