Jorge Martin declares three-way MotoGP title fight with Marquez and Bezzecchi clearer than ever

Jorge Martin has emphatically declared the 2026 MotoGP title battle is now a fierce three-way duel between himself, Marc Marquez, and Aprilia teammate Marco Bezzecchi. Despite eight riders still mathematically in contention, Martin insists the championship fight has crystallised around this elite trio ahead of the Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island.

Heading into the penultimate rounds, Martin holds a razor-thin two-point lead over Ducati’s reigning champion Marquez. However, Bezzecchi’s surge at Mandalika, where he outpaced both rivals, has cut the gap to 46 points with just five races remaining and a maximum 185 points up for grabs. “After Indonesia, it’s clearer than ever that this championship will be fought out between the top three,” Martin asserted. “We arrive in Australia with the gaps in the riders’ standings even tighter, so we have to keep working and keep faith in what everyone at Aprilia and the team is doing.”

Both Martin and Marquez missed last year’s Phillip Island round due to injuries, leaving Martin without prior experience on the Aprilia RS-GP at the iconic circuit, which is set to host its final MotoGP race this weekend. “It will be my first time on the RS-GP at a circuit as special as Phillip Island,” Martin said confidently. “I’m confident that my team and I will do an excellent job and give this circuit the send-off it deserves.”

Aprilia’s dominance last year at Phillip Island was clear, with Bezzecchi clinching the Sprint race and Raul Fernandez winning the Grand Prix. This year, Bezzecchi narrowly missed out on a potential MotoGP double victory in Indonesia after serving a double long-lap penalty for a collision with Marquez. The Mandalika race was further complicated by a slower turn one clash between Bezzecchi and Fernandez, though they later redeemed themselves by spearheading an Aprilia top-four finish.

“I’m really happy to be heading to Phillip Island,” Bezzecchi commented. “It’s a shame this will be our last time there, but I’m delighted to be back on the bike. I can’t wait, especially after the fantastic Sunday we had in Indonesia.”

Aprilia has made it clear there will be no team orders as long as both riders remain mathematically eligible for the title, maintaining an intense internal rivalry. Meanwhile, contenders from other teams trail significantly, with Trackhouse teammates Ai Ogura and Raul Fernandez 96 and 119 points behind respectively. Ogura remains within mathematical reach regardless of Phillip Island results, while Fernandez must stay within 148 points by Sunday evening to keep his championship hopes alive.

As the 2026 MotoGP season hurtles towards its climax, the trio of Martin, Marquez, and Bezzecchi stands as the definitive force in the title chase, setting the stage for a legendary showdown at Phillip Island’s farewell race. Martin’s declaration that “this championship will be fought out between the top three” leaves no doubt that the battle for supremacy has never been more intense.
