Cardiff celebrate

We did warn you over six hours ago that it was likely to be chaos, and how right we were...

Cardiff 5-4 Burnley, having been 4-1 down with 25 minutes to go.

Rock-bottom Preston 1-0 Trying to go top Southampton.

West Ham losing again, Middlesbrough drawing a blank without Will Lankshear again, Wolves going top for just two minutes and Birmingham City taking their chance of rising to the summit with a late winner against Swansea.

Just another day in the world's greatest football division.

The Championship might be entering a two-week international break but we're not going anywhere... we're back tomorrow afternoon with a feast of FA Cup first round action including Stafford Rangers v Notts County, Cray Wanderers v Stockport, Wimborne v Crawley and Oldham v Sheffield Wednesday.

Enjoy your evening and we'll see you tomorrow! Goodnight!

Wrexham

After battling back to earn a point against Wolves, denying them top-spot in the Championship, Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson told BBC Radio Wales:

"After getting beaten by Sheffield United, and having games at Middlesbrough and Wolves next, we'll take four points from that.

"It was always going to be difficult to match the intensity of Wednesday, but we weren't far away from it.

"We had to dig deep at times, and it's a really, really hard-earned point for us against a good, technical team.

"The lads gave us a lot today - the discipline without the ball was really good."

A first clean sheet since February for Preston.

Just a second blank in 35 games for Saints.

The Championship strikes again.

Jordan Thompson's first-half rocket ensures just a second win of the season for rock-bottom Preston who rode their luck and defended valiantly in the second half to hold on.

The Saints miss the chance to get right among it at the top of the table.

That should do it for Albion.

A pretty scrappy goal but they all count.

Kareem Tunde came on for the hosts a couple of minutes before, replacing Rabby Nzingoula and it's his good work on the flank which leads to the ball coming into the mixer from another sub, Felix Horn Myhre, whose cross Max Crocombe can't gather allowing Jayson Molumby to slam into the unguarded net.

Can either of these sides turn one point into three?

Lincoln threatened to do it through Adam Reach, racing onto George Wickens' clearance but firing over the bar.

QPR have had more of the ball again in this second half, but they can't find a way through, although Kwame Poku and substitute Ilias Chair both went close.

Burnley could be on for their first win under their new boss here.

Cardiff fail to deal with another long ball as Krystian Bielik's clearance falls to Largie Ramazani.

He moves in and provides a fine finish to sneak it past the keeper.

If it stays like this, it won't just be a first win for Clarets boss Fabio Celestini. It will also be a first loss at home for Cardiff.

Fabio Celestini

After two draws in his first two games in charge, could this be the day Fabio Celestini gets his first win in charge of Burnley?

There were boos from the home fans as the visitors raced into a 2-0 lead inside 25 minutes, but a scrambled Cardiff goal before half-time has set things up nicely for the second half.

The Clarets have lost 20 points from winning positions this season, the most in the top five tiers.

The Cardiff fans are getting angry now.

Not only are their team 2-0 down to a Burnley side who've only won twice over the past year, they could be further behind.

Marcus Edwards has missed a golden chance to put Burnley three up, and a few jeers can be heard among the home crowd.

That is the story of Cardiff's season - and much of last season, even as they were promoted from League One.

Despite a dominant opening 15 minutes, somehow the hosts are behind.

It's a fairly harmless ball over the top, misjudged by Cardiff centre-back Will Fish, and Anreas Hountdonji takes full advantage.

The home crowd fall silent.

Wrexham's Ollie Rathbone scores against Middlesbrough

When Will Lankshear plays, he scores – and Middlesbrough tend to win. So the absence of their guaranteed goal machine is a real concern for the league leaders.

Lankshear has banged in 13 goals in as many Championship games, including seven in his past five, but missed out in Boro’s midweek 2-0 defeat at Wrexham with what is believed to be a muscular injury.

With several rivals now breathing down their necks, Boro boss Kim Hellberg must conjure up a Plan B against Watford to ensure his side stay top of the tree going into the international break.

The other bad news for Hellberg is that Middlesbrough rarely shine at Vicarage Road, having lost eight of their past 11 visits including a 3-0 thumping almost exactly a year ago while Rob Edwards was still in charge.

Edwards had a predictably brief spell in the Hornets dugout earlier in his career but current occupant Alessio Dionisi – despite predictions of his imminent dismissal a few weeks ago – is still there and seeking the rarity of back-to-back victories.

The Hornets have actually won their past two games on home turf, beating Charlton 2-0 and then Lincoln 1-0 on Tuesday to climb a place in the table to 20th.

There used to be a time when Cardiff City matches were shifted from a Saturday afternoon to a Friday night if there was a clash with a Wales rugby fixture.

The Bluebirds tended to be in the lower reaches of the English pyramid back then but, since establishing themselves as a Championship team over the past 20 years (with a couple of seasons in the Premier League and one in League One in between) no such switch has been necessary.

So as Cardiff city centre swells with those heading to the Principality Stadium as Wales begin their autumn campaign against Japan, the Bluebirds faithful will flock to the Leckwith area of the Welsh capital.

Brian Barry-Murphy's men are unbeaten in the Championship this season and looking to climb from their current position of 18th in the table.

They start today's game five points clear of Burnley, who are in the relegation zone and hoping for a first win under Fabio Celestini following two draws in his opening two matches.

Norwich City celebrate

Comfortable for Norwich. Four wins in a row and 15 goals in that time, the last two of them also including clean sheets.

The Canaries' goals come from Paris Maghoma, Harry Darling, Andre Brooks, Jovon Makama and Mathias Kvistgaarden with a penalty - and it really could have been even more.

It looks bleak for Bristol City, on this showing.

Dreamland for Norwich, who are now four up away from home for the second time this week...

Again, they exploit the space afforded them by a porous Robins defence.

Jack Stacey's cross is turned back into the centre by Anthony Musaba and Jovon Makama - who's only just come on for Paris Maghoma - stabs the ball into an empty net.

Harry Darling should have had his second of the game just before that, misjudging his header from a corner. Norwich might easily add more goals before they call it a day.

Wolves have started this second half well.

Mateus Mane and Fer Lopez have both had efforts at goal already.

Wrexham are finding it more difficult to retain possession, although they're continuing to defend well.

Phil Parkinson made just one change to his starting line-up from the Middlesbrough win, so having played on Wednesday night, his bench will no doubt be utilised.

Cesar Piexoto made five changes from his side's win at Bristol City, and he will hope that freshness starts to show as the second half progresses.

Following a low-key start, that was a thoroughly enjoyable 25 minutes or so.

Both sides have had chances, although 1-1 is probably a fair scoreline.

Wrexham co-owner Rob Mac was delayed in getting to the ground, although he will no doubt have been entertained after missing what was a quiet opening to the contest.

Mark Elliott
Stoke City commentator on BBC Radio Stoke

Portsmouth are keeping the ball well. It's a bit frustrating to watch and Stoke just need to get closer to that first contact.

They are chasing shadows at the moment.

Portsmouth are just winning everything. First balls, second balls and Stoke just can not get out. They're nowhere near.

The frustration is that they've got so much more in their locker.

Wrexham have started well, and the home fans are responding.

Callum Doyle vigorously claps his hands as Jacques Ekomie wins a free kick.

Moments earlier, Issa Kabore went from right wing-back to conductor as he gestured towards the Wrexham supporters to again raise the noise levels.

Having beaten leaders Middlesbrough on Wednesday night, the hosts have every right to feel confident of another scalp today.

Heroes may like to slay a dragon in folklore but over in the town of Wrexham, it's the dragon who does the conquering of a bigger, mightier foe.

The Red Dragons have claimed four Championship wins so far this season and while that is nowhere near the number they would like, two of those those victories came against the very best the league has to offer.

They claimed a 2-0 win over league leaders Middlesbrough in midweek and also triumphed 2-1 against Southampton, the side who would be top of the table if it weren't for their-four point deduction for Spygate. Both came at the Stok Cae Ras.

Now they host second-placed Wolves, a hungry predator attempting to take their place at the apex.

Will the Racecourse be feasting on the bones of another giant come full-time? And is that fog over the Stok Cae Ras - or a dragon's smoky breath?

If you thought the fireworks had been and gone, maybe think again.

By bedtime tonight we'll be basically a third of the way through the Championship season and the battle for the title, and promotion places, might just be the tightest there has been at this stage of a second-tier campaign.

We have 11 games to bring you this afternoon, three of them kick-off in just under half an hour, and all the main protagonists will have their turn on the stage.

In the final game of one of these gruelling 'nine-point weeks', and with a fortnight's international break to come, it's the perfect day to turn up.

We have plenty to get through so best we bring you up to speed quickly...
