The official cause of death of AEW star PAC, whose real name was Benjamin Satterley, has been revealed weeks after his sudden passing at the age of 40.

According to a report from the New York Post, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the British wrestler died from bronchial asthma. His death was ruled natural.

PAC’s passing shocked the wrestling world after he competed at AEW All Out in Chicago on September 26, with reports stating he was found unconscious in a rental car the following day.

Medical examiner confirms bronchial asthma caused PAC’s death

A spokesperson for the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office told the California Post that investigators had determined the cause of PAC’s death following an investigation.

“Officials have determined what killed wrestling star Benjamin Satterley. A spokesperson for the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office told the California Post on Monday that following a probe into his sudden death, investigators concluded Satterley — who performed in AEW rings as “Pac” — passed away from bronchial asthma.

“The manner of his death was officially ruled natural, the rep added. Satterley was discovered unconscious in a rental car outside of a CAVA in Des Plaines, Ill. at around 4 p.m. on Sept. 27.”

The revelation offers an explanation for the sudden loss of a wrestler who remained active in the ring shortly before his death.

PAC had reportedly pulled over in a car park before being discovered unconscious. However, all the available reports do not provide further details about the medical emergency.

The wrestling world has continued to pay tribute to the former WWE star, who competed under the name Neville during his time with the company.

AEW held a tribute to honour PAC’s life, while several of his peers also shared emotional memories of the wrestler. Names including Jon Moxley, Kevin Owens, Cody Rhodes and Bryan Danielson were among those reported to have spoken about his impact.

PAC built a reputation as one of wrestling’s most exciting performers, known for his high-flying style and work across WWE and AEW.
