The cause of death of wrestler Benjamin Satterley, better known to fans as Pac, has been confirmed. The British star died on September 27, aged 40, just a day after competing in an All Elite Wrestling (AEW) event in Illinois, as per reports by Fox4 News and TMZ.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Satterley died from bronchial asthma and classified his death as natural, according to The New York Post and the California Post. His sudden death has left fans mourning a wrestler known for his high-flying style and years of work across major wrestling promotions.

What caused Benjamin Satterley’s death?

A spokesperson for the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office told the California Post that an investigation found bronchial asthma to be the cause of Satterley’s death. The manner of death was ruled natural.

Satterley was found unconscious inside a rental car outside a CAVA restaurant in Des Plaines, Illinois, at around 4 p.m. on September 27. A 911 caller reported finding him passed out in the vehicle. Emergency responders arrived and pronounced him dead shortly afterward.

According to the incident report, first responders found no injuries or suspicious markings on his body. They noted saliva on the front of his shirt and medication inside the vehicle.

An officer also spoke with a woman who knew Satterley. She told authorities that he had stopped for lunch before heading to the airport. His phone reportedly had Google Maps open with directions to O’Hare Airport.

The findings have established the medical cause of death, although the circumstances surrounding his sudden passing brought renewed attention to the condition.

Can it life threatening?

Bronchial asthma is a long-term condition that causes inflammation and narrowing of the airways. During an attack, the airways can swell and produce mucus, making it difficult to breathe.

Symptoms may include coughing, wheezing and chest tightness. Triggers can include pollen, smoke, cold weather, exercise and strong smells.

Severe asthma attacks can become life-threatening when the airways narrow significantly. Treatment often includes inhaled corticosteroids to control inflammation and bronchodilators for quick relief during acute symptoms, as per NIH and Cleveland Clinic.

Satterley’s final wrestling appearance

Satterley died within 24 hours after wrestling Andrade El Idolo at AEW’s All Out show at the NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois on September 26. Satterley lost the All-Atlantic Championship match. Later appeared during the main event with Jon Moxley and Will Ospreay.

Born in Newcastle upon Tyne, England Satterley began his wrestling career in 2004. AEW said in a statement following Satterley’s death that Satterley had performed for wrestling organizations, around the world winning fans with Satterley’s innovative high‑flying moves and in‑ring ability.

Satterley joined AEW in 2019. Became a two‑time Trios Champion and the promotion’s first All‑Atlantic Champion according to OutKick.

Before joining AEW, he wrestled in WWE under the name Adrian Neville. During that period, he won the Cruiserweight Championship twice, became an NXT Champion and claimed the NXT Tag Team Championship twice.

His wife shares an emotional tribute

Satterley’s wife, Natalie, paid tribute to him in an emotional Instagram post, reflecting on their relationship and the future they had planned together.

"Thank you for our beautiful life darling," she wrote. "Twenty one years ago we became friends, nineteen years ago we fell in love and eleven years ago we were married. Two souls entwined in one; my best friend and better half.

"You always worked so incredibly hard to ensure we would have a great life together, both now and once you had retired. The cruelty of having all of our future hopes and dreams snatched away will never feel real.

"We will try our hardest to get through this nightmare and look after each other as I know that’s what you would want, but we will miss you every minute, of every hour, of every day."
