A former Manchester United midfielder, who made 387 appearances for the Red Devils and lifted six Premier League titles, has called out one current star who would have had 'his head ripped off' under Sir Alex Ferguson.
Michael Carrick's adopted side simply cannot buy a win at the moment. Having tasted victory just twice in their 14 matches so far this season, they have now gone 10 consecutive games without picking up all three points, with the wheels threatening to come off entirely.
The club's hierarchy have gone conspicuously quiet in recent days, having yet to pull the trigger and hand Carrick his P45. However, with the writing seemingly on the wall, the search for a 12th different manager in the post-Ferguson era could be just around the corner.
That said, many believe Carrick is being made to carry the can for problems that run much deeper, with the attitude and performances of certain players seen as the real root of the rot at a club now level on points with the Premier League relegation zone. And amid the mounting frustration, one man in particular has found himself firmly in the firing line this week.
Whether it be Wayne Rooney, Paul Scholes, Rio Ferdinand or someone else, there appears to be no shortage of fury from former Red Devils towards the current squad. Watching their former teammate struggle to get to grips with a dressing room seemingly more concerned with matters off the pitch than helping United climb out of their rut has clearly struck a nerve.
Another example of a former United star taking aim at a current player came this week, when Nicky Butt launched a scathing attack on Lisandro Martinez. The Class of '92 member did not hold back against the Argentine defender, who had recently gone public with his frustrations over the club's hierarchy, before then having been sent off for an elbow in the 2-0 defeat to Chelsea last weekend.
Butt was so incensed by Martinez's recent actions that he left no stone unturned during an explosive live segment on Piers Morgan Uncensored. The former United midfielder pulled no punches as he laid into the defender, saying (watch below):
"That lad's a bluffer, full stop. Just a bluffer. The Butcher, his nickname is. I mean it's... yeah. He called out my mate [Scholes] and it was probably my fault, I said something tongue-in-cheek on a podcast and it was like, '[Erling] Haaland would pick up and carry him'. It was tongue in cheek, I didn't think for one minute he would even though Solanke did about a week ago.
"But with him, he's come out and called out a player (Scholes) who's won 11 Premier Leagues for Man United and played for god knows how many years. 'You come and see me and knock on my front door', you can't speak anything about these players because they get all touchy with it."
Butt, now 51, continued: "He threw it in the other day. He threw it in with that elbow because that was the most obvious thing anyone could do. The reason why he did it is because he's not strong enough to defend properly.
"He thought, 'You know what, I'll cut corners, I'll cheat, I'll put my elbow is someone's face and I'll get sent off and I'll leave all the other 10 lads, who, by the way, I said two weeks ago that these aren't good enough to play with me'.
"I'm getting changed in the changing room and I'm sitting next to these lads and they're going, 'he thinks I'm not good enough'. If that was back in my day, he would've completely have had his head ripped off. Everyone would've said, 'who do you think you are talking about me like that with the performances you're putting in?'
"Even if he was European Player of the Year, you still don't speak like that about your teammates and your powers that be upstairs. No matter what you think behind closed doors, you don't go and say that."

Round 1 of 9
During a recent segment on the podcast that him and Scholes co-host, the former United duo had highlighted Martinez as one of the many players they would have sold if they were in charge, and Butt has continued to call for his beloved side to axe him sooner rather than later.
"He has now gone from - I don't know why, I have no idea why - he's gone from someone the fans love to someone the fans loathe and want out of their football club. He's absolutely killed himself."
The most bizarre part of Butt's rant came towards the end, when he randomly called out Martinez for dancing with an Argentina flag after beating England late on to reach the World Cup final in the summer.
"Not only that, he lives in our country, and he's dancing around with an Argentinian flag in the World Cup," he told a studio featuring Piers Morgan and talkSPORT presenter Simon Jordan. "What are you doing? And you expect people to go and pat you on the back when you've had a bad game?"
"Some of these people need to understand... so what if you're on £200,000 a week and you're driving your Rolls Royce through your little village thinking you're King Dick.
"You can do that all you want but you can't have people tapping you on the back when you're playing so badly and you're slagging people off."
