The New York Giants traveled to Houston for their Week 7 matchup against the Texans on Sunday, looking to secure a win ahead of their bye week.
New York opened as and remained two-possession road underdogs throughout the week leading up to the game at Reliant Stadium.
J.J. McCarthy looked confident from the outset in his first start as the Giants’ quarterback, making several nice throws over the course of the afternoon.
Despite some questionable penalties on both sides and a pair of missed field goals by Dominic Zvada, the Giants entered halftime tied 14-14. Houston scored its first touchdown of the game on a connection to Marvin Harrison, who had been linked to the Giants in trade discussions before landing with the Texans.
The teams went scoreless in the third quarter and entered the fourth still tied at 14. The Giants responded with a 16-yard touchdown run by Cam Skattebo on their opening drive of the final period.
Houston answered with under a minute remaining to tie the game at 21 and force overtime.
New York forced a three-and-out on the Texans’ first possession of the extra period. The Giants then sealed the victory on back-to-back big runs from Cam Skattebo and Devin Singletary, with Singletary scoring the game-winning touchdown to secure the win ahead of the bye.
Although the Texans managed to tie the score multiple times, the Giants did not trail after the first quarter. New York finished with four rushing touchdowns on the day, overcoming recent struggles on the ground against a stout Texans run defense.
