No one ever wants to see Rangers injury list grow, but it is safe to say there’s been a difference with the last two.
Obviously, Rangers have two long term injuries, three including Daisuke Yokota. Those other two would, of course, be Lawrence Shankland and the season ender that is Youssef Chermiti.
However, Cammy Devlin was recently added to this list over a week ago after it turned out that he’d suffered a strain and would be out for around six plus weeks, potentially into the two month range.
Derek McInnes has confirmed a further player has been added to the Rangers injury list and will be out for up to a month, and that player is Ross McCrorie.
McCrorie picked up an injury in training and will be unavailable for the team until deep into November.
However, this doesn’t make an awful lot of difference, and that is the point of this piece.
It is a very rare thing when an injury doesn’t really hurt the squad that much.
Neither McCrorie nor Devlin has had a huge impact on Rangers this season. Both are valuable squad men in their own way, but not exactly vital linchpins of the first eleven.
Useful depth, absolutely, but when it comes to the first team, not that critical.
Of course, it’s a squad game, not just a first team, and you don’t want to lose any of your players.
But if there were any two that Rangers could just about afford to lose with minimal impact on the team, it probably would have been two that included Devlin and McCrorie.
We like both of these guys. They’re both filled with endeavour and energy, and they both want to do great things for Rangers.
McCrorie, of course, is a Rangers man through and through.
But his injury, alongside that of his Australian teammate, doesn’t really affect Rangers that much.
It may down the line when it comes to injuries and suspensions for other players, but in the here and now, which is all that Rangers can really plan for, there are no major injury concerns with losing these two.
Of course, the continued absences of Yokota, Shankland and Chermiti have a slightly bigger impact.
But at the same time, with the current run that Rangers are on, the implications aren’t that far reaching at the moment.
And as we’ve said before, there will now be five players returning by around January, excluding, of course, Chermiti.
Consequently, even though Rangers have added McCrorie to the injury list, it is not one that impacts greatly.
Over the foreseeable future, towards the end of the year, Rangers have quite a few players coming back from injury, and that can only add to things.
But of course, the catch is that the chances of getting no more new injuries before then are pretty low.
So it’s not like every single current squad player is fit and will remain so.
It is a bit of a lottery.
But it’s good to know that at least four players are going to be coming back over the next four or five months.
