Newcastle United have now engaged in talks about a possible January deal for a "lethal" striker, having set out to strengthen their forward line.
The Magpies have struggled from an attacking point of view at times this season, falling to a 2-0 defeat at home against Aston Villa earlier this month, after which they received criticism from former defender Warren Barton.
Barton said: "There is a concern because to have one shot on target at home against Aston Villa is not good enough. I know they’re a good team and I know maybe with the international break he’s not had a lot of time on the training field - but we don’t look like scoring and when you concede goals like we are from crosses, from combinations on the edge of the box, it’s a concern."
Yoane Wissa has led the line for the majority of the campaign, but the 30-year-old hasn't had much success, picking up just one goal in eight Premier League appearances, which led to William Osula being given the nod at the Hill Dickinson Stadium last time out.
However, Osula also struggled to have an impact on proceedings in the 3-1 loss, which confirmed Matthias Jaissle's side's exit from the EFL Cup, being replaced by Wissa at half-time after failing to record a single shot on target.

Considering the 23-year-old's record in front of goal hasn't exactly been stellar since arriving at St. James' Park, it may be a savvy move to sign a new striker this winter, and there is now an opportunity to bring in a Ligue 1 star.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Newcastle have held talks regarding the potential signing of AS Monaco star Folarin Balogun this winter, with the striker's agents attempting to find him a new club.
Balogun remains a Monaco player, after a move to Everton fell through on transfer deadline day back in the summer, but a move to England is still on the cards, with Manchester United, Leeds United and Nottingham Forest also being contacted by his representatives.
The Ligue 1 side are prepared to cash-in on the American marksman this winter, even though he was one of their key players last season, amassing a combined 24 goals and assists in 43 matches across all competitions.
Fox Sports analyst Alexi Lalas has described the former Middlesbrough striker as "lethal in the box", and he has established himself as an important player for the USMNT, collecting 31 caps, during which time he's chipped in with 12 goals.
Newcastle could certainly do with upgrading their attack this winter, given that Wissa has been on the scoresheet just four times in 39 appearances since joining from Brentford, and Balogun, who has the same agent as Nico Gonzalez, could be the ideal option.
