Inverness Caley Thistle head coach Scott Kellacher reveals advice from Dunfermline manager Neil Lennon that helped Highlanders find form in the Championship

Scott Kellacher has revealed his still hangs on to advice given to him by Dunfermline Athletic manager Neil Lennon ahead of Inverness Caley Thistle’s trip to East End Park this weekend.

The two teams met on the opening day of the season, when they both had plenty of reason to be confident after ending last season on a high note.

Caley Thistle lifted the League One title to earn promotion back to the second tier, while Dunfermline went on an impressive cup run to contest the Scottish Cup final at Hampden Park.

Both clubs would then go on to struggle to get wins early in the season, but have gone on good runs since to rise into promotion play-off contention.

Kellacher has now revealed he has taken some of Lennon’s advice after that opening day stalemate to heart, believing it has helped contribute to ICT’s form.

“He gave me a nice bit of advice which was to keep doing what we were doing, and the results will come because our performances had been really good,” Kellacher said.

“That was nice, because you do start questioning things. We started the season reasonably well, but I learned a lot after I tried to chase the first win.

“Everybody makes a big deal of getting that first win on the board, and the longer it goes the harder it gets, so I went after it.

“I ended up taking Neil’s advice, and it was a great bit of advice which I will always be grateful for.

“We got back to doing what we did best, and I think Dunfermline have kept doing what they were doing all along, knowing the results would come, and they have.

“Neil’s doing a fantastic job, but we will be going down there at the weekend looking to pick up three points.”

There may be an extra edge to this Saturday’s match given Dunfermline’s win over Stenhousemuir on Tuesday saw them leapfrog Inverness into fourth in the table.

Caley Thistle have said several times this season that their aim for 2026/27 is to avoid relegation, and while Kellacher reiterated that, he would not turn down more than that if it became a realistic possibility at the end of the season.

“If we lose a game, we are angry and upset, because we want to push ourselves,” Kellacher stressed.

“We want to stay in the league, that’s our main aim, but if we can push for anything higher than that we will.

“We’re not just happy surviving, we are happy when we are trying to push the club forward – we just want to do it in the right way.

“We won’t set ridiculous targets, saying we want to do this or that, only to fall on our face. That’s what we have tried to do over the last two years, build slowly but keep going in the right direction, and we have done that.

“Our main focus this year is to stay in the league, and if we managed to get up round about it then that’s credit to everybody at the football club.”
