Charles Green Rangers Return Brings Back Bad Ibrox Memories
Charles Green Rangers return
Former Rangers CEO Charles Green appearing on on Keys and Gray podcast.

As Rangers fans will know from the last 24 hours, a certain unexpected figure from Rangers’ past has resurfaced in recent media. Yes, Charles Green Rangers return has come as something of a surprise.

Speaking on the Keys and Grey Unleashed podcast, former CEO Charles Green has resurfaced in a very unexpected return from the dark ages.

Now, there is so much to unpack with this that Ibrox Noise is not going to bother doing so.

But what we will say is this. We were never against Charles Green in the way that so many Rangers fans were. That they had been brainwashed into being.

Back in those days, we will remember all the toxic Rangers sites that turned on Charles Green from the word go, and indeed all the other regimes, to varying degrees of justification. And Charles Green Rangers return has created many tongues wagging.

We were surprised to see these two got Green on.

Charles Green and Rangers’ Darkest Days

Green was a bit of a chancer. There is no question that the boy is not the most overly trustworthy of individuals. But he never had bad intentions for Rangers and saw it as a business opportunity.

The fact is that Charles Green took his consortium in, acquired the assets from the administrators at a low cost and ultimately ended up with a reasonably competent Rangers in the lower leagues.

Is it safe to say that Charles Green saved Rangers?

In many senses, yes.

He wasn’t the only one. The Easdales, who also came under so much heavy fire today and back then, were also a huge part of Rangers coming back. They were the only ones who kept lending the club money without taking any interest back on the repayments.

Yes, those were very dark times, to say the least, and we’re talking about 14 years ago.

But Ibrox Noise was around well before that and very much during these tough, tough times. We were at the forefront of witnessing what was happening. So Charles Green Rangers return has caused some chat.

Rangers fans were scrambling for all and any information and, in most cases, were being misled by many leading figureheads from our own support, who had their own reasons for offering antagonistic comments about whoever was in charge at any given time.

The Toxicity Surrounding Rangers

It is quite ironic that many of those who had the views of spivs, of Sevconians, of all the kinds of lower league slurs that other teams and our own fans had of just about everything, ended up themselves behaving like the very ones that they had criticised back in the day.

But nevertheless, these things don’t entirely matter anymore.

Rangers are well and truly out of that era. And it is curious that Green has been rolled out for content.

In all fairness, the boy remains a significant figure in Rangers history, who honestly did very little wrong.

He actually brought in a number of truly well meaning Rangers men to the club. This included Ian Hart, who ring fenced around £500,000 for Rangers Youth out of his own cash.

He was, of course, destroyed by Rangers fans at the time as a spiv. We can assure you he was anything but.

He was indeed a major reason why Rangers Youth didn’t completely crumble back in the day. No one else was putting in any cash there.

Remembering the Charles Green Era

However, Green’s return does signify an era of Rangers that many of us would much rather forget.

Unfortunately, we can’t.

We have to remember the bad as well as the good when it comes to the past, and while the Green era was certainly colourful and had a lot of toxicity going on around it, it definitely wasn’t the toxicity that many fans believed it was at the time or consider it to be today.

Indeed, many would look at Charles Green, and then many would look at the likes of Stewart Robertson, Douglas Park, Ross Wilson many many others, and wonder who was ‘worse’, quote-unquote.

And there’s your point.

Even the goodies and the baddies all seem to look the same.

Today, thanks to Derek McInnes and his outstanding Rangers results of late, even the previously derided 49ers Enterprises are now suddenly the toast of fans.

It all depends on results and how good the team is.

Did Charles Green Save Rangers?

Consequently, Green was in a no win situation, but he did save Rangers in many ways.

And while at the time Rangers weren’t in a good place, we could have ended up entirely without a club had the likes of Green not arrived with his consortium.

As for believing his words today, there’s probably an element of truth in a lot of it.

And while he’s certainly a good yarn teller and he’s certainly entertaining, it doesn’t mean that what he said is false.

But nevertheless, it is, as we said, very curious that he’s been rolled out.

We wonder why.

But that’s for another day.
