Jake Fraser-McGurk scripted history on Saturday by securing a thumping half-century off 14 balls, which led to a 49-ball century in a One Day Cup match between South Australia and Queensland.
The 14-ball 50 was a record-breaker as Fraser-McGurk became the fastest ever Australian batter to complete a fifty. With McGurk's power-packed century, South Australia piled up a total of 397 runs for 7 wickets.
On the way to secure the half-century, the top-order batter surpassed his own records as well. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Aussie star smashed 15-ball half-centuries twice in his league career; one against the Mumbai Indians and the second against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The 24-year-old right-handed batter opened the innings for South Australia against Queensland in Adelaide and played a stunning knock of 122 runs off just 63 balls. To decorate the innings, he registered 10 fours and 9 sixes. Fraser-McGurk’s 50 runs off 14 balls is currently the fastest fifty by an Australian batter in an official cricket match, including List A, first-class and T20 format matches.
In the overall list of the fastest 50s in the List A matches, Fraser-McGurk is not the fastest, however. The list is led by the Indian batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Sooryavanshi got a half-century against Sri Lanka A, only after facing 11 balls.

Among the Australian batters who registered rapid 50s, Jake has three in the list. The list was previously topped by Dan Christian, who claimed a 15-ball 50 against the Adelaide Strikers in a Big Bash League match in 2020. Now, it is Fraser-McGurk who is leading the tally.
He was in top gear from the beginning of the innings against Queensland. In the second over of the innings, the opener took 22 runs off Tom Straker's over, and then, from the fourth over of Tom Whitney, he collected 16.
