Last-gasp equaliser denied Stanley victory at York

Having netted in Saturday’s victory over Gillingham, Woods was on target again just after the hour mark, heading home from another Stefan Mols delivery to put Stanley on course for what would have been a third straight league win.

However, Ollie Pearce's late leveller ensured the spoils were shared and extended Stanley’s unbeaten run to six National League matches.

John Doolan named an unchanged side following the weekend success, with Donald Love marking his 100th appearance for the club.

Stanley made a bright start and looked dangerous from a series of deliveries into the York penalty area.

Woods capitalised on an early defensive error but failed to keep his effort down.

York gradually settled and Louie Moulden was called into action to deny Alex Newby, while Pearce tried his luck from distance as the hosts sought a breakthrough.

The best opening of the first half fell to Charlie Warren midway through the period after confusion at the back for York, but Alfie McNally reacted well to keep out his low effort.

Stanley remained threatening, with Devon Matthews and David Tutonda both going close before Moulden produced an excellent stop to deny Pearce when the striker raced clear just before the break.

The visitors began the second half on the front foot.

Connor O’Brien squandered a promising opportunity from Tutonda’s low cross before Stanley finally broke the deadlock on 61 minutes.

Mols delivered a free-kick into the danger area and Woods timed his run perfectly to glance a header beyond McNally.

York responded with a triple substitution and increased the pressure as they searched for an equaliser, though Stanley continued to create chances on the counter.

Warren saw an effort blocked, while Woods dragged a good opportunity wide and substitute Conor Grant also failed to hit the target from a promising position.

Those missed chances proved costly.

After McNally had denied Tutonda at one end, York snatched a point in the 90th minute when Arthur Read flicked on a free-kick and Pearce reacted quickest to score from close range, rescuing a draw for the hosts and leaving Stanley wondering what might have been.
