Harry Amass and this right-back top the player ratings for Manchester United U21s against Burnley U21s
Harry Amass

Manchester United U21s had to settle for a draw away to Burnley after failing to take advantage of their chances in the first half and making costly mistakes in the second half.

These are our player ratings for the match. You can read a detailed match report here.

(A score of six is around average.)

Ratings

Cameron Byrne-Hughes – 7 – Made a couple of good saves, one in particular where he reacted quickly to come off his line. Burnley’s only goal was a wonderstrike that he could not have done anything about.

Jaydan Kamason – 8.5 – One of the clear standouts for United, he was up and down the right wing constantly and Burnley could not deal with him. He provided some good deliveries into the box and almost got an assist when Thwaites hit the bar. He then almost secured the winner with a magical solo run, only to be denied by a top save.

Albert Mills – 6 – A very good first half, he was in control defensively and showed an expansive passing range with some inch-perfect crossfield balls. However, he slipped up in the second half and played United into danger with a few sloppy passes, one of which led to Burnley’s goal.

Dan Armer – 5 – Decent in possession but got caught flat-footed a couple of times when defending, particularly when Burnley’s attackers cut across him from outside to in. He was sent off with a straight red card after making a strange choice to lunge into a challenge on the halfway line.

Harry Amass – 8.5 – Up against an older player in Enock Agyei, who has first-team experience with Burnley and in Belgium, Amass allowed him nothing. Whether it was getting a tackle in, making a block, or defending crosses to the back post, Amass had it covered. He was also exceptional in possession, playing out from the back under pressure and picking out a number of defence-splitting passes inside the left channel. He was also quick to get forward and support Thompson.

Tyler Fletcher – 7.5 – Dominant in midfield, he dictated the tempo of the match from deep and swept up every loose ball. He also covered a lot of ground, getting forward and slotting into the backline at times in the second half to shore things up after going down to ten men.

Amir Ibragimov – 7 – A dogged performance, he was the leader of the counter-press that United deployed so effectively in the first half, which allowed Burnley no time on the ball. Unfortunately, he had to come off at the break due to injury.

Bendito Mantato – 7 – Took his goal very well and had a good relationship with Kamason on the right wing that consistently opened up space, and worked hard to get back defensively.

Jim Thwaites – 6.5 – A good first half, he forced a few turnovers on the press and moved the ball quickly in midfield, but tired as the match went on and his influence waned.

Tynan Thompson – 6.5 – One of his best performances so far at United, he was more decisive in his decision-making and did not slow play down as much. He provided a nice assist but still ended up recycling possession backwards too often.

Enzo Kana-Biyik – 5 – Had little impact up front and picked up a yellow card for simulation.

Substitutes

Yuel Helafu – 5.5 – Playing in midfield rather than his usual right-back position, he could not offer the same control and dynamism as Ibragimov, which saw United lose hold of their midfield dominance.

Reece Munro – 6.5 – Solid display at the back, he defended the box well with a couple of clearances and helped hold onto a point.

Ashton Missin – 6 – Offered directness late on when others’ legs had tired and went on a great run which played Ajayi through.

Noah Ajayi – 6 – Not on for long but almost broke free to go clear through on goal but was hacked down.
