Bridgwater & Albion beat Keynsham 34-14 for fifth win

Bridgwater & Albion made it five wins from as many matches when they travelled to basement side Keynsham RFC Second XV and came away from a contest played in continual heavy rain with a 34-14 victory.

The visitors started the game strongly and after three minutes emphasised their superiority in the scrum driving Keynsham off the ball which saw Nathan Golding pick up and crash over for a try which Josh Frost duly converted.

The hosts hit back quickly when their Number 8 burst through but the Albion defence held firm and prevented any score.

After 13 minutes Ryan Barnett went off injured to be replaced by Rob Allen, one of the team coaches who was making his first appearance for the club in a number of years.

In the 26th minute a Keynsham clearance was charged down and following some good handling in the wet conditions, Hayes sped in to score a try which Frost converted from wide out.

On half an hour a long kick from Jay Owens pushed Keynsham into their own half which allowed Shaun Mahoney, making his 75th appearance, to go over for an unconverted try.

Just before half time Frost and Jackson Hurley combined to set up Hayes but on this occasion he couldn't quite get over the line, making the score 19-0 at the interval.

After the break Keynsham had the elements in their favour and six minutes after the restart a long throw from a lineout created space which allowed them in to score a try which was converted.

Almost immediately from the kick-off the home Number 8 burst through before linking up with the rest of the forwards which saw another try for the hosts which was again converted to make the score 19-14.

Albion regrouped quickly and once again it was Hayes dodging tackles and kicking ahead who almost went through.

Just before the hour the visitors had a penalty to touch and from the lineout the forwards won the ball and drove 20 metres before Ollie Philips rumbled over for a try.

The Albion now dominated proceedings and three minutes later when Keynsham lost the ball in midfield, replacement Jack Williams kicked on.

The ball was quickly recycled to Urbonas who went over for an unconverted try.

There was one more try from the Albion which came following further good work by Urbonas before Mahoney went over for his second try of the game, soon after which the game ended with the visitors triumphant 34-14.

The Albion are likely to face sterner opposition when they host third-placed Minehead RFC at College Way this Saturday, kick-off 2.30pm.
