Ravens surrender 35 unanswered points in stunning loss to Bengals

The Baltimore Ravens controlled the first half. In the second half, they watched Cincinnati turn a promising divisional performance into an embarrassing defeat. Joe Burrow threw four touchdown passes, and the Bengals scored 35 unanswered points after halftime to beat Baltimore 35-13 on Sunday at M&T Bank Stadium.

The Ravens fell to 4-3 and 0-2 in the AFC North, losing a second consecutive divisional game while being shut out after halftime for the second straight week. Cincinnati improved to 4-2. Tyler Huntley completed 23 of 34 passes for 298 yards, one touchdown and one interception in his third consecutive start with Lamar Jackson sidelined by an ankle injury. Zay Flowers caught eight passes for 137 yards, including a 48-yard touchdown that gave Baltimore an early lead.

Those numbers could not overcome the reversal that followed.

Baltimore led 13-0 at halftime after outgaining Cincinnati 258-59 and controlling possession for 22 minutes, 20 seconds. Huntley had already thrown for 215 yards, while Burrow had managed just 43. The Bengals immediately changed the game after the break. Burrow found Mike Gesicki for a 6-yard touchdown, then connected with Tee Higgins for a 13-yard score that put Cincinnati up 14-13.

Baltimore had a chance to respond but failed on fourth-and-two from Cincinnati’s 12-yard line early in the fourth quarter when Huntley’s pass to Josh Cuevas fell incomplete. The Bengals then drove 88 yards and finished with Samaje Perine’s 15-yard touchdown run. Burrow later threw touchdown passes to Ja’Marr Chase and Drew Sample, completing a five-possession touchdown run.

Higgins finished with six catches for 148 yards and a touchdown. Chase added five receptions for 62 yards and a score. Burrow completed 22 of 30 passes for 292 yards without an interception. Baltimore’s offense finished 0-for-3 in the red zone and 0-for-2 on fourth down. Derrick Henry managed 45 yards on 17 carries, and the Ravens committed 10 penalties for 57 yards.

Mike Green recorded one sack, and the defense forced no turnovers.

Injuries added to the frustration. Rookie right guard Vega Ioane exited with a knee injury and was ruled out, with Emery Jones Jr. replacing him. Roquan Smith briefly left with a knee injury before returning. The Ravens finished with a 359-358 advantage in total yardage, a statistical edge that offered little consolation after their complete second-half unraveling.

Baltimore visits Buffalo next Sunday, facing another difficult test as questions mount about its ability to sustain offense, finish tackles, and protect leads.
