Daaryoush Ahmed signs one-year Gloucestershire contract extension until 2027

The Bristol-raised all-rounder has committed to Gloucestershire until the end of the 2027 season after a 2026 campaign that included a career-best 90 not out and List A figures of 4-56.

Gloucestershire all-rounder Daaryoush Ahmed has signed a one-year contract extension with the county, securing his place at the club through to the end of the 2027 season. The announcement, made on October 23, 2026, confirms that Ahmed will continue his professional career at the county where he first broke into first-class cricket.

Ahmed originally joined Gloucestershire in 2025 as part of the MCC's commitment to give one of its players the opportunity to represent a first-class county. Before earning that professional contract, he had progressed through the Gloucestershire Cricket Academy, the South Asian Cricket Academy (SACA) and the MCC Young Cricketers programme, and spent three seasons developing his game with Gloucestershire's Second XI.

His cricketing roots run deep in the region. Ahmed was raised at Bristol's Golden Hill Cricket Club, and that local connection has clearly shaped his attachment to the county.

"Gloucestershire is a club that means a lot to me and to my family. Growing up in Bristol and having played for the club from a young age, to continue my career here at Gloucestershire is brilliant news, and I’m looking forward to what the next year holds," Ahmed said, as quoted by Gloucestershire Live.

What did Ahmed contribute in the 2026 season?

Ahmed's 2026 campaign gave Gloucestershire clear reasons to retain him. With the bat, he posted his highest first-class score to date, an unbeaten 90 from 117 balls, including six fours and three sixes, against Middlesex at Seat Unique Stadium in the Rothesay County Championship. That innings came when the side were in difficulty at 128 for 7, and Ahmed shared a 144-run eighth-wicket partnership with Sai Kishore that rescued the innings and helped Gloucestershire secure a draw.

With the ball in the Championship, he claimed six wickets at an economy rate of 3.53. In List A cricket, Ahmed struck his maiden half-century against Somerset at Taunton in the Metro Bank One Day Cup. His most complete all-round display came at the Cheltenham Cricket Festival against Northamptonshire, where he took career-best List A figures of 4-56 and contributed 48 from 38 balls in front of a sell-out crowd, helping Gloucestershire to a three-wicket victory. Ahmed also spoke warmly about the personal support behind his development.

"I can’t forget my family either. My brother has been a huge help in my development, my dad still plays and has been representing England Over 60s, and my mum drove me to countless games and has always supported my dream of being a professional cricketer. There are plenty of aspects technically that I want to work on with the coaches this winter. It’s going to be a good opportunity to make some big steps and go into next season full of confidence," he said.

What does Gloucestershire's director of cricket say about Ahmed's future?

Jon Lewis, Gloucestershire's director of cricket, was direct about the club's reasoning for extending Ahmed's deal. Lewis pointed to Ahmed's local origins and the effort he has put into his game over the past year as central factors in the decision to keep him at the county.

"Daz is a Gloucestershire boy. He’s from just up the road in Golden Hill. He’s put his heart and soul into trying to improve as a cricketer over the past year, and we’ve seen glimpses of some really good performances from him across the season. I’m really keen to try and put Gloucestershire boys out playing for Gloucestershire, and he’s one of those, so we want to keep investing in him and trying to make him a better cricketer. We hope he’s able to come back next season, improve, and show the consistency in his performances that we know his talent is capable of," Lewis said, via the aforementioned source.
