Martin O’Neill has provided a fresh update on Auston Trusty’s situation at Celtic, revealing that the defender is expected to travel home for a celebration of his late father’s life.
Our Celtic manager page covers his record and background.
Speaking ahead of the weekend fixture, O’Neill said: (TCW), “Yeah, we’re fine, we think. I think Auston Trusty is going back home, I think it’s a celebration of his father’s life.”
The update follows a difficult few weeks for the 28-year-old, who has been given time away from football to be with his family.
O’Neill previously made clear that Celtic would support Trusty and allow him whatever time he needed following his bereavement.
His return to training on Friday was an encouraging development, but the manager’s latest comments suggest the defender may have further family commitments before returning to competitive action.
Celtic have been without the centre-back during a demanding period, with the Hoops looking to return to winning ways after Wednesday’s 2-2 draw against Dundee United.
The manager has had to manage several defensive absences in recent weeks, making Trusty’s eventual return another important consideration.
However, his personal circumstances remain the priority, and there is no indication that Celtic intend to rush him back.
For now, Trusty’s return to training is welcome news, while O’Neill’s comments make clear that the defender may still need additional time with his family.
