Liverpool have perhaps not received enough credit for coming from behind to beat Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday.
Yes, the Bees were down to 10 men for the second-half and were later reduced to nine, but the Reds still had to overturn a one-goal deficit, something they have not been known to do over recent times.
Under Arne Slot, Liverpool only came back from a losing position to win or draw four matches in 2025/26. Fascinatingly, they have now done so in the same number of games already under Andoni Iraola this time around. The fight has returned, and according to fans debating the match on TalkingPoints, that is a very good sign indeed for Liverpool.

Liverpool come from behind to beat 9-man Brentford! What were your main takeaways from the game? 🤔 We were clinging on a bit at the end…
When Liverpool fell behind under Slot last season, it was virtually a given that they would lose. When on the road away from home especially, the Reds could not find it within themselves to turn it around.
Saturday’s win was, remarkably, the first time Liverpool have conceded the first goal in a Premier League away game and come back to win since a match against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in December 2023.
Having fought back twice to draw against Newcastle and Nottingham Forest, turned things around against Atletico Madrid and now come back to beat Brentford, Iraola looks to have brought the grit back to Liverpool and fans are noticing.
“Great win, fair play,” said TalkingPoints user jonathan.gorrie. “Showed real character and grit, which is something they’ve been accused of lacking!”

Good signs to not be playing that well but still winning

“I think the win was important. Liverpool won twice this week while clearly not at their best – you can’t knock that,” added chillout, agreeing that while performances can improve, results are what matter right now.
“I think it was one of our best performances this season and we were unlucky to be down at HT,” said jordan.ellis.
Supporters were also quick to point out the benefit of having Alexander Isak back and looking sharp. Liverpool could not get the Swede fit last term under Slot and having him there to gobble up a chance or two can be the difference between the Reds losing, drawing or winning.
“Great win. Isak slowly getting his mojo back. As long as he delivers when it matters, doesn’t bother him being quiet for the most part of a game,” said dakir.thanveer.
“Isak is fit and scoring again. If he can hit that Newcastle form, Liverpool will have quite a comfortable season. Won’t catch Arsenal or City, though,” caleb.sage noted.

Not the prettiest of wins but a big one! Great result at a tough place to go, buzzing for Isak again, what a start he’s made 🔥

Iraola was seemingly targeted by Liverpool to bring a high-press, high-energy style of football back to Anfield after the crowd grew frustrated with Slot’s more controlled approach.
So far, though, we are yet to really see the chaos that has characterised the Basque’s teams, as he focuses on solidifying Liverpool’s defence first of all.
The Reds look like they enjoy digging in and getting their shorts dirty again, and that more than any beautiful or exciting football, is what will get fans onside quicker than anything.
Iraola recently admitted that he would rather win 4-3 than 1-0, and that was evident in Liverpool’s rollercoaster 6-3 win over LASK on Wednesday. But here they showed a different side to themselves.
As TalkingPoints user jordan.harris claimed: “Not many teams are going to leave Brentford with three points this year.” Last year, it is hard to see how Slot’s Liverpool would have come back from this, extra man or not. But Iraola’s bunch are made of sterner stuff, and that is reason for fans to be extremely optimistic. Performances will improve, but first the attitude has to be right. For the first time in what feels like a long time, Liverpool players are finally ticking that box.
