Kentucky overcomes slow start to beat Vanderbilt

Slow starts are becoming a weekly ritual for Kentucky football, which is not a good thing. On Saturday, against Vanderbilt, the Wildcats fell behind 10-0 before finally getting on the board. However, they'd outscore the Commodores 34-7 the rest of the way, and win 34-17.

Kentucky totaled 376 yards in the victory, while holding Vanderbilt to 262 yards. Once again, the Wildcats won the turnover battle, forcing two, while surrendering none. The biggest disparity was in the run game where Kentucky had 173 yards. Vanderbilt had just 15 yards rushing.

Kenny Minchey was efficient at quarterback once again. He was 19-of-26 for 203 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 23 yards and another score. D.J. Miller caught Minchey's lone touchdown toss. He had 5 catches for 43 yards and the score. Kenny Darby continued to shine with 4 receptions and 71 yards. Willie Rodriguez caught 6 passes for 67 yards, and ran for a touchdown.

The Wildcats rushing attack was led by Jovantae Barnes, who had 68 yards. Jason Patterson added 44 yards. C.J. Baxter returned this week, but was hurt very early on. It's not serious according to Stein.

Defensively, the usual suspects showed up. Ty Bryant had another interception, while Mi'Quise Humphrey-Grace had another sack. Jordan Castell led the Wildcats with 8 tackles.

Overall, thought the start was concerning, it was a good showing for Kentucky. They are now 7-1 on the season, and could find themselves in the top ten in the polls when the new ones are released on Sunday.
