Why Georgia's defense had best performance of the season vs. Florida

The Georgia Bulldogs were solid enough on offense and nothing short of spectacular on defense. The Florida Gators couldn't find much momentum on the day as the Georgia defense was smothering on every play. Led by star linebacker Chris Cole, the Bulldogs stuffed the run containing Florida's stand out running back Jaden Baugh. The Bulldogs put a ton of pressure on the Gators in the passing game and filled any possible hole in the running game.

Florida came into the contest playing some high level football while Georgia was coming off a bye week after their loss against the Auburn Tigers. Many who follow the Bulldogs closely, understands that a loss only motivates Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs to an elite level and one could only imagine the type of focus and preparation that went into this week. It was certainly on display in Atlanta on Saturday and the Bulldogs were able to dominate with a 27-8 victory.

Georgia Bulldogs defensive performance

The Georgia Bulldogs defense flat out dominated the Florida Gators and the numbers speak for themselves. The Bulldogs forced four turnovers during the game which made it very difficult for the Gators to have any chance at making a comeback. The turnovers forced were three interceptions and one fumble recovery. The Bulldogs also had a whopping 11 tackles for loss against the Gators. Georgia held Florida to just 48 total yards rushing and allowed 198 yards passing. The Gators were held zero points through nearly three-and-a-half quarters before finishing the game with eight points.

After the game, Georgia coach Kirby Smart called Georgia's defensive effort the Bulldogs best of the season. He thinks Georgia played with fire, passion and energy in the win.

Georgia linebacker Chris Cole returned a strip-sack fumble 66 yards for a touchdown just before halftime after a sack by Quintavius Johnson. Demello Jones recorded an interception, Ellis Robinson IV intercepted a pass from Aaron Philo and Braylon Conley intercepted one in the end-zone from Tramell Jones Jr.

The leading tacklers for the Georgia Bulldogs were Raylen Wilson with eight stops. Rasean Dinkins and KJ Bolden both had six stops a piece.

The Bulldogs are showing why they are a complete force on the defensive side of the ball and if they continue to carry this forward, they will be very difficult to beat. They have an even bigger test next week heading into Oxford to face the Ole Miss Rebels.
