Chelsea Transfer News: Chelsea’s inconsistent start under Xabi Alonso has raised questions about the squad’s balance, despite the club’s considerable summer spending. The Blues sit fifth in the Premier League after eight matches, with three wins, one draw and four defeats, and their recent 2-0 home loss to Tottenham exposed familiar problems. João Pedro remains Alonso’s leading centre-forward, but Chelsea need enough depth to sustain their pressing approach and build for the longer term.
The Brazilian has scored five league goals this season, while Danny Welbeck provides experienced cover and Emmanuel Emegha offers a more physical option. However, those different profiles leave Alonso balancing immediate results against the need for a younger forward who can attack space, press defenders and develop into a regular starter. Chelsea’s recruitment team have continued monitoring promising talent across Europe as they assess future needs.
According to Transfer Feed, Chelsea scouts watched Monaco’s Paris Brunner while following midfield target Lamine Camara. The 20-year-old German forward reportedly impressed the visitors, and the club intend to continue tracking his progress.
Tottenham have attended matches too, while Arsenal, Barcelona and Bayern Munich are monitoring the striker. Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly added him to their potential winter targets, increasing the competition Chelsea could face if they decide to act.
Brunner joined Monaco in August 2024 and holds a contract until 2028. He has scored twice in three appearances for Germany’s Under-21 side, while Transfermarkt lists his market value at approximately £13 million. Monaco’s reported need to generate funds could open the door to a January agreement, with a purchase followed by a loan back for the rest of the season reportedly under consideration.
Chelsea should judge Brunner on his long-term potential rather than treat him as an immediate solution. His athleticism and movement could suit Alonso’s high-pressing system, although his limited senior experience means the recruitment team must assess how quickly he could adapt to the Premier League. The reported interest in Camara shows why midfield recruitment remains relevant, but one pursuit need not automatically block another.
A January purchase with a loan-back arrangement could allow Brunner to continue developing at Monaco while Chelsea secure a promising prospect. However, the club would gain no immediate contribution from him, so the hierarchy must compare that delayed benefit with its current squad needs. Competition from PSG and other European clubs should inform Chelsea’s planning, not push them into paying more than Brunner’s potential justifies.
