Daizen Maeda and Arne Engels have sent messages to Callum Osmand after the Celtic forward scored twice on his first professional start against Hearts.
The former Hoops favourites were among those responding to Osmand’s Instagram post following Sunday’s emphatic 7-1 victory at Celtic Park.
Maeda had been on the scoresheet himself over the weekend, while Engels started West Ham’s 1-0 win away to Swansea on Saturday.
There is plenty more in our latest Celtic news and transfers coverage.
Both still took time to congratulate their former teammate after an afternoon he will remember for a long time.
Sharing photographs from the match, Osmand thanked supporters for their backing, writing: “First ever professional start and a huge win ! 💚 Thank you everyone for the support🫶”
Engels responded: “Finallyyy 😍🍀”
Maeda added “💚👍”, while Kelechi Iheanacho also showed his appreciation with “❤️💚🍀”.
It is remarkable to think Sunday was Osmand’s first senior start, given the memorable moments he has already delivered in a Celtic shirt.
The youngster took his opportunity with both hands, scoring twice in quick succession before the interval as Hearts struggled to contain Celtic’s attack.
His movement and willingness to get into scoring positions gave Martin O’Neill plenty to be pleased about, with the forward making a strong case for further opportunities.
The only concern came when Osmand was replaced at half-time after feeling his hamstring.
However, O’Neill explained that the change was precautionary, while the player himself said he felt good after his 45-minute appearance.
Celtic will hope he is available when Celta Vigo visit on Thursday, particularly after such an encouraging contribution against Hearts.
After waiting so long for a starting opportunity, Osmand could hardly have done much more with it.
