‘Things starting to click’ for Bournemouth under Rose, says Hill
‘Things starting to click’ for Bournemouth under Rose, says Hill

It was only ever a matter of time before things clicked for Bournemouth under Marco Rose, defender James Hill declared after their 3-0 victory over Manchester United.

The Cherries piled further pressure on embattled United head coach Michael Carrick on Sunday, with Rayan, Marcus Tavernier and Evanilson on target at Old Trafford.

While United are now 16th in the Premier League, having made their worst start to a campaign since 1986-87, when they had four points from seven matches, Bournemouth are up to 13th after piecing together back-to-back wins.

Bournemouth failed to win their first six league games under Rose, but they are now on a four-match winning streak across the Premier League and the Europa League – their best run since December 2023.

And Hill always expected their results to turn, telling the club's website: "It was a really special performance. Coming here and getting three points is hard for any team.

"But for us to come here and keep a clean sheet as well and score the three goals, credit to the whole team, they were brilliant.

"They [United] are in a difficult position, but we didn't focus on that, we focused on putting a good performance in. We focused on ourselves coming into a massive fixture against a team with a lot of quality.

"We've been really good recently and we're pleased with our clean sheets recently. We were outstanding to a man.

"We have had lots of games recently, but we wouldn't want it any other way, it's been an incredible journey.

"It was an incredible performance from everybody and a good confidence builder for the team. I am absolutely delighted.

"We were unlucky at the start of the season. but things are starting to click under Marco and we have momentum now. It was only a matter of time."

Bournemouth's victory made them just the third team to go seven Premier League games unbeaten against United (W3 D4), along with Chelsea (eight between May 2013 and October 2016) and Liverpool (eight between December 2018 and April 2022).

The Cherries have scored 18 goals in 10 games at Old Trafford in the Premier League and have the best goals-per-game ratio of any side to play away at Man Utd more than once in Football League history (1.8).

They are at home to Aston Villa in the EFL Cup fourth round on Wednesday, before hosting Leeds United in the Premier League three days later.
