Jurrien Timber was the Player of the Match as Arsenal beat Lille 3-0.

The Gunners have been brilliant in the Champions League so far. They have picked up convincing wins in each of their two games and are in a fantastic position already.

Timber opened the scoring for Arsenal against Lille with a brilliant strike. Eberechi Eze and Bukayo Saka found the net too, but the former’s goal was easily the pick of the bunch.

Noni Madueke appears to have played a bigger part in that goal than many realised.

14 goals for Bukayo Saka and counting 🔥But how do you rank him amongst these Arsenal legends?

Jurrien Timber says Noni Madueke is the reason why he scored his goal vs Lille

Arsenal were struggling to break the deadlock against Lille in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The French giants were doing a decent job at the back, but the Gunners just weren’t threatening enough in the first half and early in the second.

That changed in the 64th minute, when Madueke threaded a ball into Jurrien Timber’s feet, who brilliantly got himself into space before dinking the ball into the back of the net.

That was a finish every striker in the world would be proud of, and the Dutchman deserves a lot of praise for having the composure to do that inside the box.

However, Timber has revealed that it was Madueke who was shouting at him to shoot. That convinced him to try it, and he succeeded.

Timber said on TNT Sports: “I had some moments already in the first half, but second half I was free a lot in between. Noni saw me, and my first touch was good, which was half of the job, I think.

“And then Noni was screaming, ‘Shoot, shoot, shoot.’ So I was like, okay, I have to shoot. And tried to chip it a bit, and it went in, nice.”

Arsenal have missed Jurrien Timber

Before his injury issues began last season, Timber was being hailed as the best right-back in world football.

The Dutchman is absolutely incredible. There’s nobody better in one-on-one situations defensively, while his attacking game has come a long way over the last few years. Timber’s goal against Lille epitomised that improvement.

Arsenal have two world-class right-backs in Timber and Ben White, but for one reason or another, they have struggled to keep both of them fit over a consistent period of time.

That has made Arsenal miss either Timber or White almost all the time, but both players are fully fit now, and if that remains the case, the Gunners will arguably have the best right-back depth in world football.
