Blackburn Rovers star's 'time is coming' after injury

The Danish striker has been limited to one substitute appearance this season after hamstring injuries. With Yuki Ohashi also out, it's put extra strain on Andri Gudjohnsen.

Jorgensen's return to the bench in midweek was a welcome sight, with Mowbray open-minded about how best to use the versatile attacker.

"I think he's versatile," Mowbray told Lancashire Telegraph.

"If anything, he can play wide with that pace and mobility he's got; he can play down the middle.

"I think some games, like I put Kargbo on rather than Jorgensen the other night at Bristol and yet Jorgensen can also stretch behind the opposition backline and run; he's very mobile.

"I was just a bit conscious that it was still a bit soon for me to throw him on the pitch and expect him to go bursting past people.

"But his time's coming, I said that to him the other day, it's good that he's out there training every day now and not holding back at all, not protecting himself; he's sprinting, he's tackling, he's running, he's jumping, he's slide tackling.

"I can see he's ready to play so it won't be long and he'll impact the games."

Mowbray returns to The Hawthorns this weekend after two spells at West Brom. One was extremely successful, the other less so.

He insists that second stint has not tarnished the former, though it presented much different challenges with the ownership model.

"It's a wonderful club with an amazing support base and expectation to be in the Premier League probably more than the Championship and they have to be competing every year," he said.

"I went back to try and help them.  I went to try and help them get promotion and once we couldn't get promotion, they went down a different route.

"I've got no negatives to say about West Brom. The ownership model was obviously very, very different from when I was there for three and a bit years in 2006 or 2007.

"I obviously signed James Morrison at that time, who's now the head coach and doing exceptionally well. A very bright guy and it's going to be great to pit our wits against each other at the weekend.

Morrison is amongst a crop of Mowbray's former players now taking the dug out, highlighting the Rovers boss' longevity in the game.

That is not weird for Mowbray, who jokes that he's well aware of his age, but is delighted to see former players taking up the management roles.

"I know how old I am now," he smiled.

"I've had my challenges over the last few years and so my body's telling me that I'm getting on in years.

"I'm happy for James. I had Kieran Dyer phone me the other day, who's doing amazingly well at Southend in the National League.

"It's just great for these lads that I've worked with and worked for. Scott Brown has been in management. Steven Whittaker from that very first job at Hibernian.

"I'm chuffed that they loved football enough to want to continue in football and be coaches and hopefully I, somewhere along the line, helped inspire them a little bit to want to do that.

"As I say, I wish James all the very best but obviously after the weekend."
