Deeping Rangers beat Bottesford in the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy on penalties

Deeping Rangers prevailed on penalties for the third time this season after winning a county cup shoot-out on Saturday.

The Clarets this time triumphed 3-1 on spot kicks after their Lincolnshire Senior Trophy tie at home to Bottesford had finished 1-1 after 90 minutes.

It was Rangers' fourth shoot-out of the season after a win and a defeat on penalties in the United Counties League Cup and a spot kick success over Yaxley in the Hinchingbrooke Cup.

The Clarets had taken a first half lead as Scott Floyd fired home a 25-yard free-kick but Bottesford had got back on level terms with two minutes to send the sides into the break on level terms.

The visitors had a goal disallowed for offside in the second half while Deeping had a great chance to regain the lead from the penalty spot but Michael Gash's effort was saved.

The tie then went to penalties where Bottesford put their first effort over the crossbar with Kai Woodhouse netting for the Clarets.

Goalkeeper Alex Street then marked his Deeping debut by saving the second spot kick with Scott Floyd converting his for Deeping.

Although Bottesford netted their third penalty, Will Bestwick maintained Deeping's lead before the visitors struck their fourth attempt against the crossbar to send Rangers through to a quarter-final tie at Sleaford Town.

It was their third successive win in all competitions with manager Liam Hook pleased with his side's second half showing against their Northern Counties East League visitors.

He said: "I thought we showed them a little bit too much respect in the first half and there was a lot said at half-time.

"Ultimately, the message was to go out and believe in yourselves because we was in the game.

"I was so proud of the second half, and if we keep playing like that, then we'll be absolutely fine.

"We have turned a corner but we have to keep that momentum going and turning the screw."

Rangers return to Premier Division North action on Saturday with a tough trip to in-form Eastwood.
