Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has blasted the club’s hierarchy for yet another failure.
Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada are expected to fire Michael Carrick from his role as Manchester United head coach, following the 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth. United have earned only seven points from eight games and have no league wins since August.
Red Devils legend Gary Neville has pointed the finger at the men deciding Carrick’s fate, arguing that they do not deserve to hold the roles they do at Manchester United.
Neville told his podcast: “Jason Wilcox again shouldn’t be in the position. Jason Wilcox is a technical director who’s had an academy director background who’s making a journey up underneath a sporting director.
“All of a sudden, he’s then making the biggest decisions at one of the biggest football clubs in the world. And again, he’s been thrust into a position ahead of his time.
“Omar Berrada is obviously someone who’s not been at a CEO position before in a football club. So, there’s a lack of experience just generally in the roles that they’re carrying. And it’s all coming home to roost again.”
Sir Jim Ratcliffe appointed Berrada and Wilcox and it would be up to him to fire the pair from their roles. But there is no suggestion currently that he is prepared to do so.
United are currently 16th in the Premier League table, and have also been knocked out of the Carabao Cup already.

How much longer can Carrick last? Which players let United down?
This is spot on - very good point
Same old story at United. Managers come and managers go. It's nothing new. The Glazers are responsible for everything that's going on at United. Having new owners like how Man city and Newcastle has will make things change for the better.
Bruno is our best playmaker.Tilesman doesnt give bruno the room to show his space splitting passes, HE doesnt mark,so its a big risk to pair him with bruno,Buno needs protectors not more playmakers. i have been expecting all these pundicts to say it rather than criticising players reaction.L.Martinez said he has been trying to keep his emotions to himself.
Manchester United will now be searching for a new head coach to replace Carrick, but Neville believes it could be futile, given the history of mistakes at the top.
Assessing the entire post-Ferguson era, Neville provided a scathing assessment that included a dig at owners, the Glazers.
He said: “Michael Carrick hasn’t picked all those players out on that pitch. That’s not Michael Carrick’s job. So, who’s the head of recruitment? Who’s the sporting director? That’s where all eyes should be looked at now because the reality of it is the manager will get replaced. But they got it wrong three times.
“And then before that, the Glazers got it wrong four or five times. They didn’t even have a sporting director in for 10 years. It was pathetic. So, this club’s been run by incompetence for a long time.”
