Hampshire batter Joe Weatherley has signed a new contract with the county until the end of the 2028 season.

The 29-year-old is a product of Hampshire’s academy and has played 211 matches for the club across all formats of the game since his senior debut in 2016.

Weatherley is the club’s third-leading run-scorer in T20 cricket with 2,741 runs, behind James Vince and Michael Carberry.

He was the leading run-scorer in last season’s T20 Blast with 591 runs, at an average just under 50.

On Finals Day at Edgbaston, Weatherley scored an unbeaten 88 in the semi-final against Notts Outlaws before following it up with 75 in the final as the Hawks lost against Northamptonshire Steelbacks. Those two innings meant he became the first player to score two half-centuries on a single Finals Day.

“I’m really pleased to extend my contract with Hampshire,” said Weatherley.

“This club has been my home for 20 years and more than ten years professionally, and I love playing my cricket and being part of the dressing room here.

“We’ve got a great group of players, and I’m motivated to contribute across formats and continue our success, particularly in white ball cricket, where we’ve been in knockouts and finals regularly, and bring some trophies home.”

Weatherley has lifted two trophies with Hampshire, winning the 2018 Royal London Cup and the 2022 Vitality Blast.

Across his career at the club, Weatherley has scored 6,163 runs with 31 half-centuries and five hundreds.

“Joe has become an integral member of the squad and a match winner in white ball cricket,” said Hampshire director of cricket Giles White.

“His Blast record this year was exceptional, topped by two half-centuries at Finals Day. We are delighted that he has committed his future to the club for a further two years.”
