Australia cricketer Green on Hulk Hogan, Jimmy Anderson, Wimbledon and Test match dreams

Son of two tennis professionals, Chris Green is leading country at the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes but has his sights set on greatest stage of all

In 2014, Chris Green spent two days dressed as Hulk Hogan in Hong Kong Stadium’s riotous South Stand cheering for friend Cameron Clark during the rugby sevens.

The “awesome” experience gave Green a “very specific taste” of a city he has grown to “really love.”

This year he is back to lead his country in the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes, a year after being in the side that reached the semi-finals.

A modern-day gun for hire, the 33-year-old has played in virtually every franchise tournament going; from the cricketing hotbeds of India, Pakistan, West Indies, England, South Africa and Australia, to the relative outposts of Canada and Dubai. Norway, too.

“I would never have got to Norway, or lots of other places, if it wasn’t for franchise cricket,” the spinning all-rounder said.

“It’s given me a lifeline as a professional cricketer. It’s the non-regular pathway through the sport, but without it I wouldn’t have played for Australia, and I might not have had the career that I have.
