Norwich City: Philippe Clement on Portsmouth response

The Canaries’ 1-0 Carrow Road loss to Portsmouth left them teetering on the edge of the relegation zone, after an eighth Championship defeat in 11.

Some City fans turned on sporting director Ben Knapper again in the closing stages, while Norwich’s under-performing squad were taunted with barbs of, ‘You’re not fit to wear the shirt’ following the final whistle.

"Frustration is in every football club in the world. I have to say, it's for the first time in my career that there are so many losses, so that's also new, and I'm frustrated about it," said the Norwich boss.

"But I can say to everybody, the players also, they're gutted, they really want to fight, they really want to give everything. There's nobody escaping or hiding or not wanting to do it.

"There's a lot of passion in the building, and it's now about keeping overview in the storm, also that we can get the ship in the right direction.

"But I think this club needs also calmness in the storm, so that's my responsibility also to do that. If everybody starts to panic we are not going to get the season we want. I'm looking for solutions.

"You can keep on dragging yourself into the problems and the things that went against us, or the things that went wrong, and to keep on looking at that.

"No, it's about finding solutions with the squad we have to win more games, to get better football, to keep a structure.

"It's now getting the balance between heart and brain and overview in a good way, and getting some players up to speed, getting important players back like Kenny McLean, for example. Those things will help also in the right moments during games."

Captain McLean was part of the celebration tribute to honorary life president, Michael Wynn Jones, as he sat out his third league game with an ankle injury.

"I don't want to make predictions, but it will not be long-term,’ said Clement, when pressed on a McLean timeline update after he also confirmed Anthony Musaba was absent with a viral infection.

"But it's difficult to say now one certain date because then I put my medical department also under a lot of pressure, and Kenny needs to come back also fit.

"There's no use to bring him back and then he gets a re-injury, because he came back too fast.

"This team can also win without Kenny. That's also one thing that's possible. But of course, Kenny has a really big influence in in guiding the story on the pitch with his experience, and that will help the team also again, like you saw last season.

"Musa is sick, so he woke up with headache and a sore belly, and his girlfriend the same. So they're both sick.

"Normally, he was on the bench, but because of those circumstances, not so viral infection, and let's hope that we can recover in the next few days to be back."
