Rangers winger Djeidi Gassama is expected to attract interest in the January transfer window, however, reportedly, the Ibrox side will be reluctant to let him go unless the price is right.
Italian sides Parma and Monza tabled bids for the 23-year old during the summer, as well as Austrian outfit Red Bull Salzburg, managed by former Rangers gaffer Danny Rohl. However, the Light Blues rejected all incoming offers for Gassama, who has made 11 appearances this season under new boss Derek McInnes.
The Mauritanian is yet to find the target but has registered three assists. Consistency has proved to be his downfall at times ever since he signed from Sheffield Wednesday in July 2025, however his direct running ability and youth make him a valuable asset for Rangers. Gassama is under contract in Govan until 2029, when the club will have the option to extend another year.
According to transfer expert Pete O’Rourke, Rangers should brace for more bids for Gassama in January, however, similar to the summer, only high offers are expected to be entertained. He told Football Insider: “I don’t think they’ll want to weaken their squad in January.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if there is interest in Djeidi Gassama, because there was some interest in the winger in the summer transfer window, but Rangers fought that off and kept hold of him. I don’t think they’ll be looking to sell him in January unless an offer was to come in which was too good to turn down."
McInnes has a plethora of winger to choose from with summer additions Kim Min-su and Badredine Bouanani fighting for a place, along with Findlay Curtis and Gassama. The Ibrox boss has previously claimed that he isn’t wanting to unsettle the squad over the winter - and is expecting a quiet January after a busy summer.
Chairman Andrew Cavenagh said at a fan engagement meeting last month that Rangers fans shouldn’t expect a squad influx in January. McInnes has subsequently echoed those thought and revealed he’s had meetings with Cavenagh and CEO Jim Gillespie. The manager claimed: “I think we can cope in terms of numbers. The conversations I’ve had with both Andrew and Jim [Gillespie] separately were a couple of weeks ago, after the Celtic game.
“We spoke about the need for January not to become an unsettling one for us. We spoke about the importance of keeping the squad together. We feel that, by the beginning of December, we could have the boys I’ve just mentioned back fit. That will feel like signing three new players, with Cammy, Daisuke and Lawrence bolstering the squad. What the chairman said reflects the conversation we’ve had. We don’t expect to be busy in January at all.”
