Mason Greenwood has endured another turbulent period since leaving Manchester United, with his attempts to establish stability away from Old Trafford repeatedly disrupted.
The 25-year-old emerged as one of United’s most exciting academy graduates under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, becoming particularly dangerous cutting inside from the right onto either foot.
He scored 35 goals in 129 appearances before his United career ended following the club’s decision to part ways with him after an internal investigation.
After rebuilding his playing career at Getafe, Greenwood joined Marseille in 2024, scoring 48 goals across two seasons.
However, managerial upheaval followed him in France, with Roberto De Zerbi departing and reports of tensions emerging between Greenwood and successor Habib Beye.
His summer move to Fenerbahce promised a fresh start, but the Turkish giants have experienced considerable instability themselves.
Earlier this month, Greenwood endured a humiliating return to English football as Aston Villa thrashed Fenerbahce 6-0 in the Champions League.
The former United attacker struggled on the right wing, failing to complete either attempted dribble before being substituted after 69 minutes.
Fenerbahce subsequently drew 2-2 against Slavia Prague before suffering a 2-1 derby defeat against Galatasaray on Monday.
Now, another extraordinary managerial development has emerged just weeks after the club’s previous controversy.
Fenerbahce have officially confirmed that head coach Ismail Kartal has resigned, just 47 days after announcing his previous resignation on 10 September.
In an official statement on Tuesday, the Turkish giants confirmed that Kartal had informed management of his decision, which was met with mutual understanding and respect.
Remarkably, Kartal had already announced his resignation following September’s 1-1 Champions League draw against Roma, when Greenwood assisted Archie Brown’s equaliser.
However, president Aziz Yildirim refused to accept his departure after the manager was struck by a bottle thrown from the stands.
Following further discussions and a lengthy board meeting, Yildirim eventually convinced Kartal to remain in charge.
This time, however, Fenerbahce’s announcement confirms that management has accepted his decision.
The club thanked Kartal for his dedication and wished him success, without announcing a replacement.
For Greenwood, another managerial departure creates fresh uncertainty just three months into his career in Turkey.
