Roy Keane's blast at selfie-seeking fan at airport - who gets 'full Keane experience'

Roy Keane didn't hold back, when recounting how he was approached by an eager fan at an Irish airport

Footballing legend Roy Keane is perhaps best known for two things: his uncompromising attitude on the pitch, and preferring not to stop for pally selfies with total strangers.

But this week one photo attracted more attention than usual, after a fan spotted Keano at Cork Airport and "called out" to him to request a snap - only to receive a "rant" about bothering the Man U legend in public while he was "trying to be discreet."

Nevertheless, the fan got his photo and shared it online, explaining that he got the "full Keane experience" and ended up sitting two rows behind Roy on his flight. The post racked up 13,000 likes on X, and with so much social media coverage, Roy Keane's colleagues on the Stick To Football caught wind of the encounter - and asked the Mayfield man for his version of events, reports CorkBeo.

Gary Neville displayed the X post on his phone - and Roy immediately launched into a blistering takedown. He said: "What is it? What do you want me to do? The guy was a pest! What is funny about? What am I supposed to do, do a dance for people?

"They're shouting your name out loud. What are you shouting my name for? Just come over and be polite. He knew what game he was playing."

Neville concurred: "That's poor form, that."

Steven Gerrard, also in the studio, contributed his own experience of a fan snapping him at an airport - only, on that occasion, the fan interaction led to a stint in jail: "If you do that in the Middle East you're in big trouble. When I first arrived in Saudi, you know where you put your little bags through the security, a guy took a picture. He got a week in jail."

Keane liked the sound of that, adding: "Wow. Not a week, [they need] ten years in prison. That would be brilliant. Look, the guy wanted to make a scene, I could tell."

It's not the first time Keane has been left displeased with a snap-happy fan encounter, as evidenced in this gallery - but there are occasions when he's been more than happy to pose for the camera, as when he paused to chat to a group of second years from Scoil Mhuire gan Smál on a trip to Blarney Woollen Mills last year.
